Now headlining the Eugene Domingo-led PETA production Ang Babae Sa Septic Tank 4: Oh Sht! It's Live Sa Cheter!*, JC shared that there was a time when he never believed he belonged in front of a camera.
The award-winning actor recently looked back on his journey while celebrating his tenth year in show business, a milestone that now includes more than 68 projects across television, film, and theater.
In a previous social media post, JC revealed why screen acting was never part of his original dream.

“I never saw myself doing screen work. Kaya nag-stay ako sa entablado after that. Lumugar ako. I never even dreamed of acting for the screen kasi feeling ko pang magaganda lang ang kamera. Honestly, palaisipan pa rin sa’kin to hanggang ngayon. But I guess God and the universe had a different plan. Multimedia work is tough. It takes love — real love — to survive it. As for me, I’ve had an endless love-and-hate relationship with screen acting. Pero hey, after 10 years of playing different roles for TV and film… sana naman healthy ang relationship namin.”
Despite those lingering doubts, JC said the people who trusted his abilities became the reason he continued accepting projects and growing as an artist.
“Film and television will always be a writer’s and director’s medium. And the truth is: I’m still here because of great people who believed in what I can offer to their work. And that is enough to keep me going. To keep me inspired. To keep me grateful.”
Beyond acting, the 37-year-old performer is also expanding his career behind the scenes by learning how to write and produce original material.
Speaking to PUSH ABS-CBN, JC shared that he is producing his first stage play in Hong Kong while also developing new projects with fellow theater artists.
“Siyempre focused pa rin ako sa acting. So I’m still learning how to write my own material. Of course sana laging original material yung na-po-produce ko, na-po-produce namin. I’m also producing a play this month in Hong Kong. It’s titled Job with William Manzano. And I’m also doing something with Bart Guingona again after our play Red. So sana mangyari lahat siya this year or next. And it’s my first time producing so I’m learning here and there.”
Although he is already 37 years old, JC continues to portray much younger characters, something he simply considers part of the profession he deeply enjoys.
He also shared what keeps him motivated despite maintaining a demanding schedule.
“I’m always happy kasi I’m doing what I love eh. Just like with theater, I keep coming back. Bast huwag kayong mapagod magkuwento at maraming laging interesting stories. Keep it interesting every time and always share your shame, your fears, to everybody.”
Known for emotionally heavy romantic films, JC also laughed off the idea that he might eventually grow tired of crying in front of the camera.
“Siyempre naman (laughs). Hindi mawawala yun. Napapagod din naman ako (umiyak) pero kaya naman. Natutulog lang ako (laughs). Pero maraming darating pa. May historical project akong darating, may zombie movie na paparating with Carlo Ledesma, and also a Christmas movie with Netflix.”
With new productions, fresh collaborations, and several upcoming film projects already lined up, JC continues to embrace every opportunity while remaining grateful for the career he once believed was never meant for him.
