Former basketball player Doug Kramer has called on the public to extend financial assistance to the families of Ateneo student-athletes Rene Baterbonia and Divine Adili following their tragic deaths.

Kramer made the appeal through his now-expired Instagram Story, where he expressed concern for the grieving families amid widespread discussion surrounding the incident.

"There is a lot being said right now regarding our fellow Blue Eagles who have passed on, their families, and our alma mater," Doug wrote.
"However, my focus right now is simply to be an avenue of help for their grieving families."

The former Ateneo De Manila University Blue Eagles champion in 2002 stressed that his intention was to help direct attention toward immediate support for those left behind.

Doug Kramer also shared donation channels that were authorized by the families of the late student-athletes, encouraging people who wish to help to contribute through proper and verified accounts.

In his message, he urged his followers to take part in spreading assistance and unity during the difficult time.

"Share and let's all help, guys. Be an avenue of blessing," he said.

The passing of Rene Baterbonia and Divine Adili has sparked grief across the Ateneo community and beyond. Both were members of the university’s student-athlete circle and were reported to have died following a drowning incident during a team-building activity in Dipaculao, Aurora.

Following the tragedy, students, alumni, athletes, and supporters expressed condolences and solidarity with the bereaved families, with many coordinating ways to offer assistance.

Donation details were also circulated to ensure that support reaches the families directly.

In Memory of Rene Baterbonia, donations may be sent through BPI under the account name Rovelyn Noja Baterbonia with account number 7319-0528-06.

For Divine Adili, the family has authorized Eze Prince Nnamdi to receive contributions via MariBank under the account name Eze Prince Nnamdi with account number 1988 0999 707.

As tributes continue, Kramer’s appeal adds to the growing efforts of the community to provide comfort and assistance to the families during their time of loss.

In another report, Vice President Sara Duterte expressed disappointment over what she described as Ateneo’s insufficient response following the deaths of two basketball players. She emphasized that schools should act quickly in reaching out to and supporting grieving families during tragic incidents. Duterte also stressed that the deaths of student-athletes should not be treated as ordinary cases, noting the need for greater sensitivity and accountability from educational institutions.

Meanwhile, Ateneo Blue Eagles head coach Tab Baldwin publicly addressed the deaths of Divine Adili and Rene Baterbonia, admitting his shortcomings as both a coach and a friend. In a pre-recorded statement, Baldwin said he felt he had failed in his role as a leader, reflecting on the team-building activity linked to the incident. He also appeared at a candle-lighting vigil held at the Ateneo campus on June 11, amid ongoing calls for accountability within the sports community and from PSC chairman Patrick Gregorio.
