Actress and Miss International 1979 title-holder Melanie Marquez recently had an insightful interview on “TicTALK with Aster Amoyo.”

In the interview, the celebrity mom recollected how she tried to keep the custody of her children, Maxine and Michelle Dee, from her ex-husband Derek Dee’s influential family.

“'Yung relationship ko kay Derek wasn't good 'yung time na 'yon. Hindi ko kayang tapatan ang Chinabank [lineage] siyempre,” Melanie admitted.
As per Melanie, she fled the Philippines with Maxine and Michelle, who was only 6 and 3 years old at the time.
“I have to leave the country with my children. Tinakas ko, kaya nagkaroon ako ng kasong kidnapping. Sabi ko, paano ko kikinapin ang sarili kong anak. I just want my children to grow up with me.”
Melanie further narrated that she even asked her friend to help her and her daughters to get into the States.
“'Yung time na 'yon under petitions sila eh. Naitakas ko sila by asking a friend of mine, happened to be that time the son of the Ambassador of Mexico. Nasa Hong Kong ako, nalaman ko na lang na they will put a hold contempt order, and then I asked a favor from my friend to give me a Mexican visa so I can get into the States. And asked a friend of mine to help me get into the States.”
Melanie then shared how her health was affected during those times. She also revealed that after a few years, she started to have a friendly relationship with his ex-husband and in-laws.
“Nagkaroon ako ng tipus noon sa tensyon. Kasi nga nagkaroon ako ng warrant of arrest na wala akong subpoena. Nagulat ako, paano ako nagkaroon nang wala akong kaso. Everything ends into well naman.”
