Content creator Sassa Gurl opened up about the bullying and physical abuse she experienced during her high school years, recalling how one incident left her with a black eye.

Sassa shared the experience during her appearance on “I-Listen,” an intimate podcast hosted by award-winning Kapuso broadcast journalist Kara David on Wednesday, September 9. During the conversation, they discussed Sassa’s experiences as a student, including how her sexuality became a reason for her classmates to bully her.
Sassa said the bullying she experienced in high school became much worse compared with what she went through in elementary school. She recalled being the only gay student in her classroom and eventually experiencing physical violence.
“So ang nangyari, mas lalo akong na-bully kasi ako nga lang ang bakla sa classroom namin. Kung noong elementary, talak-talak lang. Ito mas haggard. Kasi one time, na-black eye-an ako,” she explained.

She also recalled another disturbing incident in which some students waited for her outside the school because they wanted to hurt her.
“May one time din na inabangan ako sa labas. Gusto nila akong bugbugin, pag-tripan, gano’n. Tapos may time din na parang first day of school…may isang kaklase ako don na trip niya lang ako.”
According to Sassa, one of her male classmates would throw erasers at her and punch her. Kara then asked whether Sassa had actually experienced being beaten by her classmates.
“As in, nakaranas ka na binugbog ka nila?”
“Yes,” Sassa answered.
Sassa clarified that only one male classmate was directly responsible for physically assaulting her. However, she felt that the situation involved more people because some of them seemed to find amusement in what was happening to her.
Looking back, Sassa said she felt alone during those moments and believed that she simply had to endure what was happening.
“Noong mga oras na ‘yon, feeling ko wala akong kakampi,” she said.
“Kasi ang feeling ko, tiisin mo lang ‘to kasi ganito talaga ang high school. Maraming mga dagok time.”
Her mother eventually discovered what had happened after noticing Sassa’s black eye. Sassa recalled that her mother went to their school and confronted the male student who had hurt her.
Despite what happened, Sassa said that things eventually became okay. Her story nevertheless highlighted the severity of the bullying she experienced as a student and the difficult circumstances she had to endure during her high school years.
