The controversy stemmed from Senator Zubiri’s statement, “Inday Badiday na ba tayo dito sa Senado?” while criticizing a video presentation shown during the privilege speech of Imee Marcos. According to Zubiri, the video allegedly contained fake news, conspiracy theories, and biased opinions.
The senator’s comment drew a reaction from Inday Badiday’s grandchild IC Mendoza, who felt that the late entertainment icon’s name was unnecessarily dragged into political discourse.
Following the post, Zubiri issued a lengthy public apology addressed to the family of Inday Badiday.

“Sa buong pamilya of the late Inday Badiday, I am sincerely sorry for mentioning her name during my manifestation sa Senado,” the senator wrote.
He explained that the statement was a “slip of the tongue” made in the middle of an intense Senate discussion and admitted he should have chosen his words more carefully.
“Slip of the tongue po iyon in the middle of a heated debate, and I take full responsibility because I should have been more careful with my words,” he explained.
Zubiri also emphasized that he deeply respects Inday Badiday and recognizes her enormous contributions to Philippine television and entertainment journalism.
“Lovable talaga siya, with her own charm, wit and warmth, and I fully recognize her contribution to Philippine television, entertainment journalism and media,” he said.
The senator clarified that his frustration was directed toward the controversial video shown during the Senate proceedings and not toward the late television personality herself.
“My frustration was about the video shown on the Senate floor, and I never meant to disrespect her memory or reduce her legacy to politics,” he added.
He also acknowledged the sentiments expressed earlier by I.C. Mendoza, the grandson of Inday Badiday.
“Tama si I.C. Mendoza, dapat hindi na nadamay ang lola niya sa usaping pulitika,” Zubiri stated.
Despite the apology, Dolly Anne Carvajal admitted that she still has lingering questions about the senator’s motives behind issuing the public statement.
In a new Facebook post, she openly wondered whether Zubiri would have apologized had her son not publicly called him out online.
“Although Senator Migz Zubiri has issued a public apology for dragging my mom’s (Inday Badiday) name into the Senate circus, I wonder if he would have apologized if my son IC did not call him out on social media,” Dolly Anne wrote.
“Or is it just damage control?” she added.
The columnist further admitted that she was initially too shocked and offended by the issue to immediately release a statement.
“I was too appalled to react immediately that’s why I didn’t post anything about it yet,” she explained.
Dolly Anne then revealed that she intends to share more detailed thoughts about the controversy in her upcoming column for The Philippine Star.
“I will share my sentiments about the issue in my Philippine Star column this Thursday,” she said.
She ended her statement by referencing one of her late mother’s most iconic lines.
“As my mom’s famous line goes, ‘Careful, Careful,’ Mr Zubiri,” she concluded.
Juan Miguel Zubiri, whose full name is Juan Miguel Fernandez Zubiri, was born on April 13, 1969. He has served as a Philippine senator since 2016 and previously held the same office from 2007 until his resignation in 2011. During his political career, Zubiri also served as the country’s 30th Senate President from 2022 to 2024, as well as Senate Majority Leader during multiple terms including 2008 to 2010, 2018 to 2022, and 2025 to 2026.
Earlier, Sharon Cuneta shared a meaningful photo with husband Francis Pangilinan and longtime family friend Tito Sotto. The Megastar accompanied the post with a quote about standing on the right side of history and advocating for people’s rights, which quickly gained traction online amid recent political developments in the Senate.
In a previous report, I.C. Mendoza accepted Senator Zubiri’s apology regarding the controversial mention of Inday Badiday. Although initially hurt by the comparison, I.C. later thanked the senator for acknowledging the family’s concerns and clarified that he understood the frustration behind the heated Senate exchange.
