The issue began after Senator Zubiri criticized a video presentation shown during a privilege speech by Imee Marcos, which allegedly contained fake news, conspiracy theories, and biased opinions.

During the debate, Zubiri remarked, “Inday Badiday na ba tayo dito sa Senado?” while expressing frustration over the proceedings.

In a previous social media statement, I.C. expressed disappointment over his grandmother’s name being associated with political controversy and what he described as a “circus” inside the Senate.

“Please do not disrespect the legacy of my late mommy Luds,” I.C. wrote at the time.

He emphasized that Inday Badiday’s contributions extended far beyond celebrity gossip and entertainment intrigue.

“She helped shape local pop culture and the entertainment journalism landscape of her time, and her work influenced conversations around media and entertainment for generations,” he added.

I.C. also pointed out that dragging his late grandmother’s name into political commentary felt offensive to their family.

“Ang tagal nang patay ng lola ko. Please leave her out of your political commentaries and analogies,” he said.

Following the backlash, Senator Zubiri issued a public apology addressed directly to the family of Inday Badiday.

“SINCERE APOLOGIES TO INDAY BADIDAY’S FAMILY,” Zubiri wrote in his statement.

The senator clarified that the remark was a “slip of the tongue” made during an intense and emotional Senate debate.

“Slip of the tongue po iyon in the middle of a heated debate, and I take full responsibility because I should have been more careful with my words,” he explained.

Zubiri also stressed that he holds deep respect for Inday Badiday and recognizes her impact on Philippine media and entertainment.

“Lovable talaga siya, with her own charm, wit and warmth, and I fully recognize her contribution to Philippine television, entertainment journalism and media,” the senator said.

He further admitted that I.C. Mendoza was correct in saying that Inday Badiday’s name should not have been involved in political discourse.

“Tama si I.C. Mendoza, dapat hindi na nadamay ang lola niya sa usaping pulitika,” Zubiri acknowledged.

Shortly after the apology was released, I.C. responded positively and accepted the senator’s explanation.

“I also get where you’re coming from and your frustration. And yes, I’m sure you meant no malice by it,” I.C. wrote.

He admitted that while Inday Badiday was indeed known for entertainment news and showbiz intrigue, the family was simply surprised by how her memory became linked to discussions involving fake news and political controversy.

“Kilala talaga siya for showbiz intrigues, but it just felt off seeing her memory associated with fake news peddlers,” he explained.

Despite the misunderstanding, I.C. assured the senator that there were no hard feelings between them.

“But all good!” he added.

The actor and television personality ended his response by thanking Senator Zubiri for acknowledging their concerns and for issuing a sincere apology.

“Thank you for this Senator Migz. Appreciate it, Keep fighting the good fight,” he wrote.
