Chin-Chin Gutierrez breaks years of silence in Miriam College tribute book

Chin-Chin Gutierrez has made a rare public appearance, resurfacing more than ten years after she quietly exited the entertainment industry in 2015.

The former actress is featured in a newly released coffee table book celebrating the 100th founding anniversary of Miriam College, where she talks about her faith and the path she has taken since leaving showbiz.

The book, titled "The Legacy We Carry: 100 Years From Maryknoll to Miriam," chronicles the century-long history of the Quezon City school. It was established by the Maryknoll Sisters back in 1926 before it was eventually renamed Miriam College, according to a report by PEP.ph.

Its launch is set for September 12, 2026, during the school's Centennial Night at the Fairmont Makati. Interested buyers can order a copy through the Maryknoll-Miriam College Alumni Association website, with the book priced at P5,000.

Chin-Chin isn't the only known personality featured in the project. Music icon Celeste Legaspi, National Artist for Dance and Ballet Philippines founder Alice Reyes, and PEP founding editor Jo-Ann Q. Maglipon are also among the alumnae included. Director Olivia Lamasan rounds out the list of notable names in the book.

Atty. Sam Celiz, who headed the centennial book project, explained the goal behind including these stories. As quoted by PEP, the project aimed to highlight more than just career milestones, but also the quiet decisions and values these women carried long after they left the school.

The inclusion of Chin-Chin is especially notable given how far she has stayed from the spotlight since retiring from acting. Her sudden departure from the industry fueled years of speculation, with some reports back in 2019 even claiming she had entered the Carmelite order as a nun. In truth, the actress is a consecrated laywoman, someone who takes private vows and lives out a religious calling without formally joining a convent or order.

Chin-Chin first addressed her faith publicly in a 2019 interview with the video series Portraits in Faith. During that conversation, she revealed that her own mother had once been a sister with the Franciscan Missionaries of Mary.

Her mother's journey took an unexpected turn just a month before her final vows, when she suffered a fall that broke her back and required surgery. She eventually left the religious order, but Chin-Chin shared that her mother's missionary spirit stayed with her for the rest of her life.

Alicia Alonzo is a well-known television and film actress who became recognized for her acting skills and the many roles she portrayed throughout several decades. She is one of the respected personalities in the showbiz industry and has now chosen a quiet life devoted to her faith.

In August 2020, Lolit Solis shared in an Instagram post that Chin-Chin Gutierrez had become a full-fledged Carmelite nun after spending several years as a novice. She praised Chin-Chin’s decision to leave the entertainment industry in pursuit of a deeper spiritual life.
