- An online post claimed that Vice President Leni Robredo has ordered to prohibit the use of firearms during drug raids
- The claim came after Robredo accepted the offer to be the country’s “drug czar”
- However, it has been reported that the claim was false
- Robredo also debunked the claim on social media
A social media post has claimed that Vice President Leni Robredo has ordered the police officers to prohibit bringing firearms during anti-drug operations as the new co-chairperson of the Inter-agency Committee on Anti-illegal Drugs (ICAD).
However, KAMI learned that the claim was misleading.
In a report by Rappler, an online post claimed that Robredo said she would conduct a “no gun arrest policy” in the anti-narcotics campaign.
“I will order all police personnel who will be under ICAD to surrender their guns before police operations and raids. We will conduct a NO GUN ARREST POLICY to drug suspects,” it read in the post.
The claim also produced a meme on social media.
According to Rappler, Robredo did not issue any statement regarding the ban of using firearms during the operations.
Robredo also debunked the claim through a Facebook post.
“Maging mapanuri sa dumaraming fake news sa social media, tulad ng nasa imahe sa ibaba,” it read.
As previously reported by KAMI, Robredo has accepted the offer of President Rodrigo Duterte as the country’s “drug czar.” During her acceptance speech, Robredo said that she took the new role if it would put an end to the killings of innocent people.
Maria Leonor "Leni" Gerona Robredo is the current and 14th Vice President of the Philippines. She is the widow of then-Interior Secretary Jesse Robredo.
