Vickie Marie Rushton, a returning contestant in Binibining Pilipinas this year, was able to catch the attention of many netizens due to her national costume.
KAMI learned that the said beauty queen was glamorous in her “Diwata”-inspired costume that was made by Jomar Peralta.
Vickie made it to this year’s 10 Best National Costumes and she expressed her gratitude through a lengthy Instagram post.
She stated that her costume was a tribute to an artistic tradition in the Philippines which involves hammering brass, silver, and gold plates.
“The flowers on the waist are made up of abaca silk ‒ a beautiful blend of silk and abaca fiber which produces a unique sheer and vibrant color…
“This is Vickie's ode to reviving the local abaca industry in her province that will make a significant impact on the local economy, giving livelihood, employment, and income for many Filipinos…
“Lastly, the Diwata is holding a representation of a Philippine Eagle with a burning heart that symbolizes strength, resiliency and patriotism of every Filipino people,” Vickie posted.
