The actress and television host shared her perspective during her appearance on the October 2 episode of Chika Cart, where she was asked about the so-called “seven-year itch,” a term commonly associated with a period when couples may supposedly experience dissatisfaction in long-term relationships.

Gelli said she does not subscribe to the idea because she has never personally experienced it. Instead, she described marriage as something that requires continuous effort from both partners.

“Hindi kasi ako naniniwala sa seven-year itch, hindi ko naman siya naranasan. Feeling ko, marriage is a work in progress,” she said.

For Gelli, couples should also look beyond the wedding itself and the practical decisions that come with starting a life together. She stressed that the relationship between the partners should remain a major priority.

“Kasi 'yung mga nagpapakasal, parang ang dami nilang plano sa kasal, kung saan sila titira, pero more than all of that; the way, the wedding or where are you going to live, ang dapat asikasuhin ay 'yung isa't isa,” Gelli explained.

She also pointed out that the dynamic between spouses can change as their children grow older and eventually establish families of their own. Because of this, she believes couples should learn how to maintain their connection even as their family situation evolves.

“Sa umpisa; kayong dalawa, magkakaroon kayo ng mga anak. Pero, lalaki sila; magkakaroon ng pamilya, in the end kayong dalawa ulit. Dapat focused kayo sa kung paano kayo magkakasundo,” she said.

Gelli further discussed how romance and “kilig” may naturally feel different as a relationship matures. Rather than expecting the same excitement throughout the marriage, she encouraged couples to appreciate the deeper forms of connection that develop over time.

“Love and all that romance is only always in the beginning. Kilig-kilig in the beginning. Don't strive na every year kinikilig ka,” she said.

According to Gelli, companionship and friendship can eventually become more meaningful aspects of a marriage than the initial romantic excitement.

“Eventually it will be companionship, friendship, which is actually deeper than the romance we all want to experience. In the end, the romance is just a plus, kasi 'yung respeto sa isa't isa, 'yung connection is what really takes you to the end,” she added.

Her remarks highlighted her view that a lasting marriage is built not only on romance, but also on friendship, mutual respect, understanding, and the willingness to continuously work on the relationship.

In another report, Gelli de Belen shared her perspective on the online controversy involving actor Patrick Garcia and his past relationship. Rather than taking sides between the adults involved, Gelli said her main concern is the children caught in the middle of the issue. She pointed out that the adults have already moved forward and that it is unfair for the younger ones to bear the impact of the backlash. Gelli also urged the public to set a better example for children by avoiding the kind of toxic discussions that can spread on social media.

Meanwhile, “Chika Cart” released an official statement following the online tension involving Dennis Trillo and Gelli de Belen. The program clarified that the opinions Gelli expressed during the episode were her own and were shared as part of an open discussion. Its management also maintained that the show had no intention of taking sides or disrespecting any of the families involved. The statement ended with an appeal for the public to choose kindness and maintain respectful conversations online. \
