Angelu de Leon opened up about the changing pressures celebrities face over their bodies, noting how social media has made public comments about weight much harsher and more widespread.

The 47-year-old actress acknowledged that maintaining a certain weight can become part of the expectations placed on celebrities. She compared the experience of dealing with body-related comments before social media became widespread with what stars face today.
“Oh, yes! And I know the difference between walang [social media] noon, now na meron."
“It's totally different. Kasi dati, ang mga sabi nang sab 'pag tumataba ako yung manager namin, producer, di ba? Some fans, ganyan. Ngayon, buong mundo, ang nagsasabi sa 'yo in harsh words.”

Despite the pressure, Angelu said she has reached a stage in her life where she no longer allows such remarks to affect her as much. She explained that the arrival of social media happened at a time when she already felt less compelled to prove herself in the entertainment industry.
“Ako, hindi. Umabot na 'ko, so, siyempre, sa puntong deadma. Di ba, dedma talaga? Parang, siguro kasi nang dumating din 'to, dumating din yung social media, medyo wala na yung pressure sa akin."
“Unlike siguro yung mga kabataan ngayon, na mas bago sa industriya, mas mabigat yung pressure sa kanila. Sa amin, parang wala na kaming kailangang patunayan. Di ba, parang ganun yung thinking mo na lang.”
Angelu, who is a mother of three, also discussed how women’s bodies naturally change through different stages of life. She pointed out that pregnancy and hormonal changes can significantly affect a woman’s physical and emotional experience.
“Parang, oo naman, may tatlo ka nang anak. Biruan 'to, ha, di ba, minsan, 'pag nakakita ka na ng sexy, na single, na ganyan, 'Hintay natin 'pag nagkaanak ka.' Yung mga ganun na lang."
She further shared that she has gained a better understanding of hormonal changes, including perimenopause and menopause, as she grew older and learned more about women’s health experiences.
For Angelu, becoming more informed about these changes is important because hormones can also influence a person’s psychological well-being.
Angelu de Leon is a veteran Filipina actress and politician who rose to prominence in the 1990s as one of the top teen stars of her generation, notably starring in the hit youth-oriented series T.G.I.S. Beyond her long-standing showbiz career spanning both television and film, she transitioned into public service and was elected as a city councilor in Pasig City.
One of the well-known discontinued shows of the veteran actress, Angelu De Leon looked back on her first pregnancy and the decision that led to her sudden departure from “Growing Up.” The actress admitted that pride played a role in how she dealt with the situation at the time, something she continues to reflect on years later. Angelu shared that she still finds it difficult to watch the teen series’ final episode because of what happened during that period. She also encouraged others to practice humility, learn to apologize, and give themselves the chance to forgive their past mistakes.
Meanwhile in a previous interview, Angelu De Leon opened up about growing up under the strict guidance of her mother, Flora. She recalled how she rebelled against her mother’s rules before becoming pregnant at the age of 18. Angelu said experiencing motherhood herself eventually helped her understand why her mother had been so protective of her. Their relationship has since grown deeper, with the actress describing their bond today as more meaningful.
