Angelu De Leon opened up about one of the most difficult chapters of her showbiz career, reflecting on her first pregnancy and her abrupt departure from the teen-oriented series Growing Up.

In a Facebook post on September 23, Angelu looked back on the period when she became pregnant with her first child, Maria Louise Nicole, with former boyfriend Joko Diaz.
While she continues to believe that keeping her baby was the right decision for her, the actress admitted that she wishes she had handled the situation differently.
“If you’ve committed a mistake, it’s to humble yourself first.”

“Up to now, hindi ko pa rin kayang panoorin iyong last episode ng Growing Up.”
“Definitely, magbe-breakdown talaga ako.”
“Iyong desisyon ko na i-keep ang baby ko, I know it's for my soul at iyon ang tama para sa akin.”
“Pero sana, I handled everything differently.”
At the time, Angelu was reprising her role as Ma. Patrice “Peachy” Real and was paired with Bobby Andrews in the series. Looking back, she admitted that she left without properly apologizing to those affected by her decision.
“Umalis ako nang walang sorry sa cast, kay Direk Mark (Reyes), sa mga fans na nasaktan din, at sa mga crew na naapektuhan at nawalan ng trabaho dahil sa naging desisyon ko.”
“Noon, ang nasa isip ko, paninindigan ko ito.”
“Gusto kong ipakita na strong ako.”
“Pero na-realize ko kung gaano ako ka-full of pride.”
Angelu, now a second district councilor in Pasig City, said the experience eventually changed her understanding of strength and humility.
“Hindi pala pagiging strong ang hindi pag-amin na nagkamali ka.”
“Ang tunay na strength pala ay iyong kaya mong sabihin, ‘Nagkamali ako.’”
“Kaya mong magpakumbaba.”
“Kaya mong humingi ng tawad.”
She also acknowledged that things might have turned out differently had she approached the situation another way.
Although she cannot change the past, Angelu said she can learn from it and become a better person.
“Mahirap aminin, pero alam kong malaki siguro ang maaaring nabago sa situation kung iba ang naging approach ko noon.”
She ended her reflection by encouraging others carrying their own regrets to acknowledge their mistakes, apologize when necessary, and learn to forgive themselves.
Angelu de Leon is a Filipino actress and politician who rose to prominence as a popular teen idol and television star in the 1990s. Transitioning into public service, she was later elected as a city councilor representing the 2nd district of Pasig City.

She recalled becoming pregnant at 18, a turning point that eventually helped her understand why her mother had been so protective of her. Angelu shared that experiencing motherhood herself gave her a deeper perspective on her mother’s actions. She said their relationship has since grown stronger, becoming deeper and more meaningful over the years.
