Pinoy Short Film 'Maria' Makes It To Cannes Film Festival 2016

Another Pinoy film made it to the Cannes Film Festival 2016.

Short film “Maria” is a finalist to the Short Film Competition or Cannes Court Métrage in May. The six-minute movie is part of the Cinemalaya 2015 entry, “Anatomiya Ng Pag-ibig,” which features 12 stories about the different faces of love.

The movie narrates a love story of Maria, a lady who grew up in a religious and conservative environment. However, a sudden turn of events prompted her to decide before the sun rises, according to Rappler.

“Maria” director ER Alviz expressed his joy and gratitude via Facebook.

“Thank you to all the people who supported to make this film possible! To Team ‘Maria,’ again, thank you for all the passion and heart you poured out in making this film. See you in Cannes,” he said.

Glaiza de Castro and Chynna Ortaleza posted to their respective social media their thanks to the people who supported the film to make it to the Cannes Film Festival.

Meanwhile, one of the judges in the festival, Japanese director Naomi Kawase, is looking forward to this year’s finalists since contenders are coming from many parts of the world.

“Maria” stars actresses Glaiza de Castro and Chynna Ortaleza. The 69th Cannes Film Festival opens May 11, while the awards night will be held on May 22.

Filipinos are no neophyte in the international film festivals. Numerous Pinoy films were already featured and won in various film fests.
