In a post on her official FB page, Doctolero lamented the choice of words of Ranay, and even called his TV series the work of a coward.

The screenwriter also narrated that Direk Andoy had tried to create his own LGBT-themed TV series after the success of GMA’s My Husband’s Lover, but failed.

“Natatandaan ko... After the success of My husband’s lover (ahem)... Gumawa rin siya ng LGBT themed soap,” Doctolero narrated.

She then said she can’t even recall the title because it had such a short life.

“I dont even remember the title kasi sandali lang nag air e. Hindi kasi nag rate. Puro seks pa, akala ko nga ay adult movie serye,” the screenwriter said.

Doctolero then called Ranay’s LGBT-themed TV series weak, trashy, and the work of a coward.

“Hindi nila yata napanindigan ang tema (ng LGBT ha, hindi parang adult movie). Natakot yata? Kaya siguro ay iniliko uli ang kwento, ginawang hetero love uli. Haha. Tsk. Ang weak. Sa salitang kanto: supot! Sino ang basura? ‘Yan na ba ang world class? Trabahong duwag?” Doctolero said in her FB post.

The TV and film screenwriter then declared that only GMA-7 is brave enough to come up with a series that has a controversial theme and they always stand by it, whether it rates or not.

“Klaro ito. GMA-7 lang po ang gumagawa ng matatapang na kwento at ito ay aming pinaninindigan hanggang sa dulo, mag rate man o hindi. Why? Kasi may respeto kami sa audience at sa LGBT community (pati sa mga indigenous community, sa mga pwd, sa lahat na, na ginagawan namin sa GMA ng kwento),” Doctolero said.

This is not the first time that Doctolero found herself in the midst of contentious issues. Last year, she was among the first who defended DepEd’s illustration of farmers in the department’s modules. The said modules became controversial on social media after it depicted a family of farmers wearing tattered clothes. Doctolero then took to Twitter and expressed her opinion on the said illustration and agreed with the illustration of DepEd and said that the life of the farmers is miserable as they only get to have new shirts if they are given shirts from the hardware or during the election. She also asked if people think that farmers and their families wear branded items.

In another contentious issue, Doctolero tried to hit back at the negative reactions of some netizens regarding GMA-7’s Voltes V. Netizens said the network should not have made the series dramatic and loaded with crying scenes. Doctolero defended GMA’s TV series, saying that the network’s adaptation came from the original series, which is also loaded with many sad scenes.
