According to a report by James Agustin on GMA’s Unang Balita, the student was on her way home to Caloocan when she briefly fell asleep during the trip.
After waking up, she noticed that her wallet was already missing.
The victim said two passengers who had been sitting near her suddenly moved toward the back of the bus.

“Tapos nung nakita ko po, wala na ’yung wallet ko,” she recalled.
She began checking under and around her seat but could not find the missing item.
“Parang natataranta na po talaga ako. Hindi ko na alam, kaya tumayo ako sa bus,” she added.
The three suspects reportedly hurriedly got off the bus afterward and were about to board a taxi when the victim tried to stop them.
The bus driver also stepped in and blocked the taxi.
According to the student, the driver told the suspects to get out and return her wallet.
One of the men later allegedly threw the wallet toward her and claimed that it had only been in her pocket.
A brief commotion followed, prompting the victim to ask people nearby for help.
Police officers happened to be in the area and were able to apprehend the three individuals.
Authorities said the two male suspects are brothers, while the female suspect is reportedly the partner of the older man.
Police identified the three as alleged members of an “ipit gang,” a group known for targeting commuters.
According to authorities, their alleged method involves staying very close to a passenger while another member takes the victim’s belongings.
Police said some groups may also create distractions or scenarios to divert a passenger’s attention while an accomplice takes valuables.
The student's wallet was recovered with P700 still inside.
She explained that the money was supposed to be used to buy books for school and came from hours of work as a call center employee.
“May pinaglalaanan na po ’yun for school, tsaka ilang hours na shift ko na rin po ’yun sa work,” she said.
She added that working in a call center often requires staying up late, making the money particularly important to her.
The two brothers denied stealing the wallet.
One of them claimed that it had simply fallen and that they only returned it to the student.
The woman, meanwhile, declined to give a detailed statement.
The three suspects were detained at the Batasan Police Station and are facing a complaint for theft, according to the Unang Balita report.
