The driver of the Thailand school bus who fled the scene while the vehicle was being consumed by a raging fire was arrested by police authorities.
In a report by the South China Morning Post, it quoted investigators in saying what the driver told them about panicking when the vehicle he was driving caught fire.
The driver, who was identified by authorities as Saman Chanput surrendered several hours after the incident occurred.
Authorities have filed cases against the driver for reckless driving causing multiple deaths and injuries, as well as failing to stop and help others, as well as failing to report the said incident.

In a statement to reporters, deputy regional police chief, Chayanont Meesati, said the driver revealed to authorities that he was driving casually until the vehicle lost its balance then hit another car and scraped a concrete barrier, which then caused sparks that could have ignited the blaze.
The driver also claimed he ran to get a fire extinguisher from another bus travelling with them on the same trip but he wasn’t able to put out the fire, after which he ran away due to panic, deputy regional police chief Chayanont further said.
In a report by CNN, the bus, which carried six teachers and 39 students belonging to the elementary and junior high school, was travelling on an official school trip when it caught fire.
The blaze spread so quickly that many were unable to escape the raging inferno.
In a report by ABS-CBN, rescuers have started recovering bodies from the vehicle, with the identification process already starting.

Meanwhile in local news, a traffic enforcer who was directing traffic at an intersection was hit by an SUV. The incident happened in Cebu City, according to the report of Saksi of GMA. CCTV footage showed that the traffic officer was already signaling for the driver to change route, but the latter just went on and hit the traffic officer. The city government, through its Acting Mayor Raymond Alvin Garcia, believed that it was an intentional act on the part of the driver.
