The suspect then slowly made his way to the second floor. Moments later, he was seen leaving the house while carrying a bag.
According to the report, the stolen bag contained a cellphone and P25,000 in cash. The money was supposed to be used for the enrollment of an incoming third-year college student.
“Dapat po talaga mag-e-enroll kami ngayon,” a member of the victim’s family said.
The student also lost a phone in the incident. The family said they were thankful that some of their other funds had already been transferred through a bank.
The victim’s mother shared that she was inside a room when the man entered their home. She did not notice anything unusual at the time because the family’s dogs did not bark.
“Yun din po ang pinagtataka namin, sir. Kasi kahit po kami, pag biglang pasok po kami, talagang tumatahol sila,” she said.
Before the incident, one of her children reportedly went to a nearby store shortly after midnight. The gate was closed afterward but was not locked.
When the family later noticed that the gate was open, they contacted a relative and asked that the security footage be checked. They then discovered that an unknown man had entered the property.
A barangay official believes the family’s movements may have been observed beforehand because of the suspect’s confident actions inside the house.
“Pagka-analyze ko po, parang minanmanan na ho talaga eh. Akala mo nga taga-roon siya eh. Dire-diretso lang ho siya,” the official said.
The barangay has reportedly received information about the possible identity of the man. Officials said the tips are still being verified.
Local authorities also placed barangay watchmen on alert and reminded residents to make sure that their gates and doors are locked whenever they leave or go to sleep.
Police are now investigating the incident. Authorities are also asking anyone with information about the suspect to coordinate with them.
The victims are determined to file a formal complaint over the theft.
