According to reports from ABS-CBN News, the encounter took place on the night of April 28, 2026, as the victim was returning home from a day spent seeking employment opportunities in Mandaluyong.
The victim, a second-year student, shared that she was only five minutes away from the safety of her home when she was confronted in a poorly lit area.
The perpetrator reportedly brandished a weapon and demanded her belongings. Fearful for her safety, the student surrendered her bag, which contained academic documents, a small amount of cash, and a mobile phone valued at over P6,000.

“Nanginginig po ako sa takot. Na-trauma po talaga ako. Alam ko naman pong mahirap ang buhay, pero kawawa rin po ‘yung mga nabibiktima nila," the student stated in her official testimony.
Her emotional account highlights the distress caused to ordinary citizens simply trying to improve their circumstances through honest means.
The breakthrough in the investigation came through the village’s surveillance system. CCTV footage from Barangay Inarawan captured a man matching the suspect’s description carrying the stolen phone and later passing it to a female companion.
Being a resident of the same area, local security officers were able to pinpoint his location quickly.
Upon arriving at the suspect's home, members of the Barangay Public Safety Office noticed several red flags.
“Nakita po namin ‘yung suspect na maraming pinamili kagaya ng bigas at mga de-lata. Posibleng nabenta na niya ‘yung cellphone sa murang halaga,” explained Jared, a local safety officer.
Despite being found with suspicious items, the suspect denied the allegations, claiming he would never support himself through dishonest acts.
Official records indicate that while this is the man’s first time being formally detained, he has a history of local complaints involving physical altercations.
The suspect is now being held at the Antipolo Police Community Precinct 2 and faces formal charges of robbery.
This case serves as a stark reminder of the importance of community vigilance and functional security infrastructure in ensuring public safety.
