In addition to the fatal injury sustained by Sim, five other individuals were reportedly injured in the incident.
The SUV eventually came to a stop after colliding with a railing on the sidewalk. Following the crash, the registered owner of the vehicle, identified as Bryan Dominic Guzman Jayamaha, was seen assisting his mother out of the SUV.
Jayamaha provided clarification regarding the circumstances leading to the accident. He stated that the security guard had allegedly insisted on starting the SUV to move it for parking purposes, despite explicit instructions from Jayamaha’s mother not to do so.
He added that he attempted to stop the security guard, but the vehicle had already sped off.
Police Captain Kamir Kayat, the Officer-in-Charge of the Traffic Investigation unit of the Makati Police, reported that the security guard claimed he was instructed by the establishment he was guarding to rearrange or have the vehicle moved as it was obstructing other incoming clients.
Based on the initial investigation, authorities believe the security guard may have been unfamiliar with operating an automatic transmission SUV.
The mother of the deceased, Evelyn Sim, has made a public appeal for justice for her daughter and for assistance for her six orphaned grandchildren.
“If anyone can offer help, please let it be for my grandchildren,” she pleaded.
The security guard, who has been detained, declined to give a statement. According to Captain Kayat, the guard has expressed deep remorse for his actions.
He is currently facing complaints of reckless imprudence resulting in hom1cide, multiple physical injuries, and damage to properties.
