Jane Lee, the wife of EJK victim Michael Lee, admitted she was initially skeptical about reports of Duterte’s arrest, saying that she would only believe it once she saw proof.
"May naririnig na nga po ako na aarestuhin ngayong araw na ito pero para sakin to see is to believe. Pero nung nalaman ko talaga na naaresto na siya, talagang naglulu-lundag ako sa tuwa na hindi ko alam kung ano 'yung mararamdaman ko," Jane said in an interview with TeleRadyo Serbisyo's Isyu Spotted.
When news came out, she said that it felt surreal after years of waiting.

"Sabi ko na lang, 'sa wakas ito na yung matagal ko nang hinihintay' at matagal nang hinihintay ng mga pamilya," she said.
However, Jane reminded herself that Duterte’s arrest was only the beginning and did not guarantee the justice they had been fighting for.
"Di naman po talaga nagtatapos sa pag-aresto lang sa kaniya. Alam po namin na... malayo pa po ang tatakbuhin ng hinihingi naming hustisya," she said.
She also shared how even her children found it hard to believe the news at first.
Despite their relief over Duterte’s arrest, Jane said the pain of losing their loved ones remains, along with the what-ifs of a future taken from them.
"Sa pagitan ng makapangyarihan at mahihirap, napakalaki ng pagkakaiba. Buti pa siya inaresto siya, samantalang yung asawa ko at iba pang biktima binaril na lang, pinatay na lang nang ganon-ganon lang," she lamented.
Former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte was the 16th President of the Republic of the Philippines. He left Malacañang on June 30. The newly inaugurated President of the Philippines is Bongbong Marcos who got 31 million votes in the May 2022 elections. The new Vice President of the Philippines is VP Sara Duterte, the daughter of former president Rodrigo Duterte.
Earlier, the former president was apprised of his rights under the Miranda Doctrine. In a video shared by GMA News, CIDG chief, Police Major General Nicolas Torre III, is seen reciting the Miranda Doctrine to the former president. The reading of the Miranda rights is a standard procedure for persons being arrested to ensure that the latter fully understands their rights upon their arrest. It can be recalled that the International Police (InterPol) has confirmed the issuance of the arrest warrant by the International Criminal Court against the former president.
An earlier video showing former President Rodrigo Duterte’s longtime partner, Honeylet Avanceña, seemingly trying to prevent the former leader from being taken into custody has gone viral. The video, which was posted on the social media page of their daughter, Veronica or Kitty Duterte and shared by ABS-CBN news on its own page, has since then gone viral. The said video also captured snippets of conversations between Avanceña and the former leader. As of this writing, the video has gained 1.2 million views with 5.4K comments and 29K reacts.
