Individuals searching through a landfill in Talisay City, Cebu, were startled to find a severed human leg inside a box.

According to a report by Fe Marie Dumaboc on GMA Regional TV's Balitang Bisdak, the limb was discovered in a Barangay Tapul landfill on the afternoon of February 12, 2025.

Garbage collectors immediately notified barangay officials, who then informed the police. Authorities arrived at the scene to investigate.

Initial findings suggest that the severed leg originated from a hospital.

Dr. Annesa Patindol, chief of the Regulation Licensing and Enforcement Division of the Department of Health (DOH) 7, stated that no formal complaints had been filed regarding the improper disposal of the limb.

The severed leg was sent for examination due to potential health risks.

Amputated body parts from medical procedures are classified as infectious waste and require proper disposal. If negligence is established, the hospital responsible may face legal consequences.

The Talisay City Police, along with the Scene of the Crime Operation (SOCO) team, launched an investigation. Authorities contacted the hospital believed to be the source of the amputated leg.

Hospital waste is categorized into two types: general waste and pathological waste, which includes syringes, medical materials, and amputated body parts. The garbage collector, responsible only for general waste, mistakenly included pathological waste in the landfill disposal.

The unnamed hospital clarified that a separate waste service provider handles the collection of pathological waste.

The Talisay City Police have since retrieved the severed leg and returned it to the hospital for proper disposal.

Based on the investigation, as reported by GMA Regional TV One Mindanao, the tricycle tried to overtake a motorcycle. That was when it collided with a forward truck that was carrying motorcycles.
