Barangay officials have cited an increase in dengue cases within their area since the beginning of 2025, prompting this new reward program, which will start on Friday, February 21.
The initiative aims to engage the community in actively addressing the rise in dengue, encouraging participation and promoting awareness about preventing the spread of the virus.
This initiative comes after Quezon City declared a dengue outbreak due to rising cases. Department of Health (DOH) spokesperson Assistant Secretary Albert Domingo mentioned that additional areas from Metro Manila, Central Luzon, and Calabarzon may soon declare outbreaks, though he did not specify the exact locations.
With more areas potentially at risk, local governments are looking for innovative ways to control mosquito populations and protect their residents.
