In a speech announcing his withdrawal from the senate race, “Manong Chavit” said he puts a great premium on his health.
“Health should always come first. I must be honest with myself and the people. I need to step back and focus on getting better,” the former Deputy National Adviser and Ilocos Sur Governor said.

He also said that he doesn’t need to run and win as senator because he believes he’s already a winner in his effort to connect with Filipinos all over the country.
“I don't have to win because I am already a winner in connecting with Filipinos from all over the country,” Manong Chavit said.
Despite withdrawing from the race, the seasoned politician gave an indication he’s going to continue to be active in public service, particularly in his advocacies.
“I will continue to help PUV drivers, incentivizing modernization through huge subsidies,” Chavit said during his speech.
Chavit Singson is a businessman and famous politician from Ilocos. He is the former governor of the province.
Last year, Chavit made good his promise to the Yulo family by giving a Christmas gift of P1 million to Eldrew Yulo and his family. The gift was considered an advanced Christmas gift at the time having been given in November. The present was received by Eldrew’s parents, Andrew and Angelica Yulo with their daughter Elaiza Yulo. In a report by the Daily Tribune, it revealed that Chavit is also expected to hand over to Carlos his financial incentive of P5 million. Chavit, one of the country’s famous sports benefactors, is also playing peacemaker between Carlos and his family who have been at odds with each other over some private matters.
It can be recalled that a couple of months before this, Chavit aired a message to another Yulo family member, Pinoy two-gold Olympian Carlos Yulo, in a 3-minute interview. In the video, Singson offered Carlos and his family P5M should they reconcile. According to Chavit, he is not giving the money because of Carlos' Olympic win. The former politician said he just wants the family to be happy, and he will be happy.
