A group of five members were arrested by operatives of the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas and the police for making rings from P10 coins at the Paliton Beach, San Juan, Siquijor.
The report stated that the group would sell the rings for P1,500 each, mostly to foreigners.
The inner core of a P10 coin is made of aluminum bronze while the outer core is made of copper-nickel.
It would only take 40 minutes for the group to make one ring.

“Nag-conduct kami ng several test buy operations, na-determine nga namin itong mga ‘to nag-o-offer especially to foreigners," said Mark Fajardo, senior investigation officer of BSP-Payments and Currency Investigation Group.
"Sabi nila in one day nakakagawa sila ng 20 to 30 jewelry rings out of dun sa P10 coin na ito. Sisirain nila ito, tatanggalin nila yung inner core and then gagawa sila ng ring sa inner core na iyon,” Fajardo said.
They would be charged with violations of Presidential Decree 247 for mutilating legal tender coins.
