Yasmien Kurdi opened up about the difficult experiences that led her to view law school as more than just an academic pursuit, describing it as a “healing ground” during one of the most painful periods for her family.

In a follow-up Facebook post accompanied by photos, Yasmien explained why law school became a source of distraction and purpose after everything she and her family went through. She said she needed something that could occupy her mind instead of constantly returning to the painful memories surrounding their experience.
“After everything my family and I went through, I needed something to distract my mind from the pain and trauma.”
Yasmien recalled that bullying involving her child had not been addressed despite their repeated complaints. She said her child was hospitalized for two weeks because of anxiety following a December 2024 incident and underwent six months of therapy afterward.

“Hindi na-address ang bullying kahit ilang beses na kaming nagreklamo.”
According to Yasmien, the situation also affected her child’s schooling. She said her child had to stop attending classes and needed to repeat the entire school year within a shortened period.
The actress also shared that the intense stress and worry eventually affected her own health. She said she was taken to the emergency room after experiencing severe urticaria while she was breastfeeding.
“I was breastfeeding at the time, kaya kinailangan ko ring itapon ang mga breast milk ko.”
Yasmien emphasized that the experience was particularly traumatic because it happened while she was also going through the postpartum period. She said she remembers the details of what happened to her child and family at the school involved.
“Ganun ka-traumatic yung pinagdaanan namin ng pamilya ko, and sabay pa noon ang postpartum period ko.”
Despite the challenges of studying law, Yasmien explained that the stress she experiences in law school feels different to her because she has a choice to continue or leave. She said her studies give her something positive to focus on while keeping her mind occupied.
“Hindi ibig sabihin na walang stress sa law school.”
She also said that law school gives her a sense of purpose and helps prevent her from constantly reliving the painful events her family experienced.
“It keeps my mind occupied, gives me purpose, and helps me focus on something positive instead of constantly reliving what happened.”
Because of this, Yasmien said law school eventually became her “healing ground.”
“Kaya for me, law school became my healing ground.”
This perspective adds context to Yasmien’s earlier posts about her journey as a law student. She previously shared that she initially hesitated about pursuing law because she did not expect to pass the entrance examination. After being accepted, however, she gradually began to feel that studying law might be part of her calling.
Yasmien also said she enjoyed being busy with something completely different despite the demanding readings, cases, recitations, and deadlines. Along the way, she formed friendships with fellow law students whom she described as being like siblings to her.
Her interest in law has also extended to subjects involving women’s rights and gender-related legislation. In March, Yasmien shared that Gender Sensitivity and Laws on Women and Children’s Rights was one of her favorite subjects.
“One of my favorite subjects in law school is Gender Sensitivity and Laws on Women and Children's Rights, and I also submitted my reaction paper on the Supreme Court's Legal Feminism in Philippine Gender Jurisprudence today,” she said in an Instagram post.
She also discussed legal protections for women, including the Anti-Violence Against Women and Their Children Act, Magna Carta of Women, Safe Spaces Act, and Anti-Séxual Harassment Act.
Yasmien’s latest post provides a more personal explanation for why she continues to pursue law despite its demands. For her, the experience has become intertwined with rebuilding her focus and finding a positive direction after a deeply difficult chapter for her family.
