The injury occurred on August 16 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum, where Lance suited up for Team Viva One. He was attempting a shot when he landed awkwardly on the court, immediately appearing to be in pain. Medical personnel attended to him before he was taken out of the game.

A day after the incident, Lance confirmed the extent of his injury through an Instagram post. He described the torn ACL as something he had feared as a basketball player.

“Every basketball player’s worst nightmare would probably be a torn ACL.”

The injury became particularly emotional for Lance because basketball has been part of his life since he was only four years old. Beyond the physical setback, he admitted that the situation made him think deeply about what his future in the sport might look like.

“But with that, there’s a lot of thoughts that come into mind. Will I ever play the same again? Will my passion for the sport that I loved since I was 4 years old change? Will I ever play again?,” he asked himself.

Lance, however, made it clear that he intends to work through the difficult recovery process.

“I know that this is gonna be a tough journey but I will do everything to get back on track and be better than I once was," he added.

He also expressed regret over having to leave the highly anticipated event after he and his teammates had spent time preparing for the games. Lance apologized to his coaches, teammates, friends, family, and supporters who had made the effort to watch him compete.

“To all the fandoms, friends and family, I’m sorry for letting you guys down as well. I know yung iba bumyahe pa ng malayo para lang mapanood ako and yung teammates ko. Pasensya po talaga and I promise you guys babawi ako once I’m clear to play again,” he vowed.

An ACL injury affects one of the major ligaments responsible for stabilizing the knee. Such injuries are especially common among athletes, making Lance's setback a particularly significant one given his long-standing connection to basketball.

Despite the uncertainty surrounding his return, Lance chose to focus on recovery and expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support he received.

“I just want to thank everyone for the messages and the concern. Rest assured I’m on the positive side and just looking forward to recovering 😊
I love this sport more than anything in the world. I’ll come back stronger.

“Heads up kaya yan 🙏🏼.”

Jairus Aquino, Lance's fellow Team Viva One player, also assured him that he would not have to face the recovery journey alone.

Before entering showbiz, Lance was already known for his basketball background. He previously played for the basketball team of Ateneo de Davao University before joining Pinoy Big Brother Otso, where he became known as the “Capteen-Ball Cutie ng Davao.”

For now, Lance's focus is on healing and eventually returning to the sport that has been a major part of his life for decades.
