Kapamilya singer and actress Angeline Quinto opened up about a difficult period in her younger years when she temporarily stopped singing after being affected by hurtful remarks from other people.

During her recent guest appearance on Ang Walang Kwentang Podcast, Angeline recalled how comments she heard, particularly from some distant relatives, eventually made her question whether singing was really meant for her. At the time, she was only around 15 or 16 years old.
“Nung 15 [or] 16 years old ako, nagstop ako sa singing. Parang medyo siguro napuno yung heart ko ng mga ganun. Ang dami kong naririnig, baka talagang hindi para sa akin ang pag kanta,” she recalled.
Angeline had already experienced a major opportunity in music before that period. She competed in Star for a Night, where she reached the Grand Finals but ultimately lost to fellow Kapamilya singer-actress Sarah Geronimo.

Interestingly, Angeline said winning was never her main reason for joining the competition. Instead, she simply wanted the chance to see her idol, Asia’s Songbird Regine Velasquez, in person.
“Hindi ako sumali doon para sa pera, sa exposure, hindi talaga. Kasi gusto ko lang talaga makita si Ms. Reg ng personal. Yun lang talaga yung gusto kong mangyari and pasasalamat ko na umabot ako ng finals kasi hindi ko naman talaga inaasahan. Sabi ko nga, nako first week palang talo na ako dito. Okay na nakita ko na si Regine,” she said.
Although she did not win, Angeline was already accustomed to participating in amateur singing contests and viewed the experience positively.
“Umabot naman ako ng grand finals–– si Sarah yung nanalo. Ako naman, dahil sanay naman ako sa mga amatuer singing contests, manalo o matalo, okay ako. At kung natalo man ako doon, may mga consolation prizes din naman kami; may pera pa rin akong mauuwi,” she added.
However, the negative comments she received afterward eventually took a toll on her confidence. Angeline said she stopped joining singing contests despite having several television competitions she wanted to try.
“Nagstop ako sumali sa mga singing contests kahit marami akong gustong salihan sa TV, hindi ko na siya tinuloy. Pati yung mama ko nga nagtatanong kung bakit hindi na nagtratry ulit,” she continued.
Her story eventually took another turn when she joined Star Power: Sharon's Search for the Next Female Pop Superstar. Angeline won the competition, which helped launch the career that would later span 15 years in the entertainment industry.
She emphasized that her mother, Mama Bob, played a crucial role in helping her move past the hurtful words she had heard.
“Pinalampas ko nalang lahat kasi si Mama Bob ganun. Kung ano man ang marinig mo sa ibang tao, ikaw naman ang nakakakilala sa sarili mo,” she said.
Looking back, Angeline expressed gratitude that she had someone who consistently believed in her during a period when she was beginning to doubt herself.
“Buti nalang meron akong ganun–– meron akong nanay, meron akong Mama Bob. Kahit isa lang siya, dalawa lang kami, alam kong buong-buo yung suporta sa akin,” she ended.

Angeline recalled how she supported and comforted Nonrev Daquina when he became the target of intense online criticism. She also revealed that before they got married, she made sure to ask Nonrev directly if he was certain about choosing to build a life with her.
