Aljon Mendoza plans new documentary on Macabebe flood crisis after graduation

After completing his college degree, actor Aljon Mendoza is preparing to devote more time to his showbiz career while pursuing his passion for documentary filmmaking and vlogging.

Aljon recently graduated from Philippine Women's University with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, Major in Marketing. With that milestone behind him, he said he can now give more attention to the goals he had temporarily balanced with his studies.
“Para akong nabunutan ng tinik. Ngayon, mas makakapag-focus na ako sa passion at dreams ko na gusto kong umarte. At the same time, parang siyang [katuparan] ng promise ko sa sarili ko na makapagtapos ako ng pag-aaral.” sabi ni Aljon nang makausap siya ng GMANetwork.com at ilang entertainment media kamakailan.
One of his priorities is producing another personal documentary focused on the flooding affecting his hometown of Macabebe, Pampanga.

The actor said his family recently advised him not to return home amid the heavy rains because floodwaters had reached alarming levels.
“Gusto ko ulit i-document yung nangyayaring baha sa amin kasi naaawa na talaga ako sa mga nakatira doon, lalung-lalo na sa pamilya ko. Kasi, kapag nagbi-videocall kami, ipinapakita nila yung baha hanggang dibdib na, patuloy pa rin ang pagtaas ng tubig.
He also described how residents have been coping with the situation, particularly those who have no means to relocate.
“Marami pa rin po [ang mga nakatira doon] kasi yung iba wala naman silang choice na lumipat. Yung iba, itinataas na lang nila ang mga gamit nila, kanya-kanyang diskarte. Sa bahay namin, nagtaasan ng gamit. Yung isang kuwarto, nalooban na rin ng tubig.”
Aljon also linked the severe flooding to concerns surrounding controversial flood control projects.
“Ghost project po talaga,” aniya.
He urged authorities to respond to affected communities and provide assistance to families dealing with the continuing floods.
“Sana maawa kayo. Sana may gawin kayo kasi maraming humihingi ng tulong and yet wala pa ring nangyayari.”
Aljon Mendoza first gained recognition as a housemate on “Pinoy Big Brother: Otso,” where he was part of the Star Dreamers under Teens Batch 1. He was dubbed “The Shy Charmer of Pampanga” and shared the batch with Josh Worsley, Art Guma, Seth Fedelin, Jelay Pilones, Karina Bautista, Lie Reposposa, and Kaori Oinuma.
In a previous report, Boy Abunda highlighted the inspiring journeys of his scholars, Aljon and Kaori Oinuma, who balanced their showbiz careers with their studies at Philippine Women's University.
Aljon also previously opened up about his departure from ABS-CBN, admitting that he felt mixed emotions after nearly eight years as a Kapamilya. Despite his uncertainty about the future, he expressed gratitude for the opportunities he received from the network.
