Glaiza De Castro honored her late co-star Ricky Davao during the Philippine premiere of their animated documentary film “58th.”

The actress gave a touching tribute to Ricky at the 2026 Cinemalaya Philippine Independent Film Festival on Thursday, August 13, at the Red Carpet Premiere Theater in Shangri-La Plaza, Mandaluyong City. Ricky played Reynaldo “Bebot” Momay in the GMA Public Affairs and GMA Pictures project.
Speaking during the premiere, Glaiza acknowledged the important role that the veteran actor-director played in the movie.
“Gusto ko rin po i-acknowledge dahil napakaimportanteng role rin po ang kaniyang ginampanan, Direk Ricky Davao,” she said.

She also recalled working with Ricky in several projects and witnessing his dedication to his craft.
“Ito po ang siguro isa sa mga huling pelikulang natapos niya. Kasama ko rin po siya sa 'Sang'gre,' nagkasama rin kami rito at sa 'Sinagtala' at bago siya namaalam ay talagang nakita ko kung gaano rin siya kasipag at katapang.”
“So, masaya rin po ako na napapaligiran ako ng mga matatapang na tao,” Glaiza added.
“58th” is also Ricky's final film performance, according to GMA. The movie follows the story of Reynafe Castillo, portrayed by Glaiza, as she continues the fight for answers surrounding her father Reynaldo Momay.
The project has already received recognition overseas. It had its world premiere at the 2026 International Film Festival Rotterdam and later became one of its Top 10 Audience Choice Films. “58th” also won the Facing the Edge Award at the 2026 Doc Edge Festival in New Zealand.
In an interview with Nelson Canlas, Glaiza shared how proud she was that a Filipino story had resonated with audiences outside the country.
“Very proud bilang isang aktor, bilang isang Filipino na marecognize outside sa Philippines. It just means na ang dami-dami nating potensyal,” she said.
The award-winning star stressed that while the subject of the film is difficult, it remains an important story to tell.
“At proud ako kasi naging bahagi ako ng storya na 'to para maikuwento sa bagong henerasyon kung ano 'yung nangyari dati.”
Veteran broadcast journalist Jessica Soho was also present at the premiere. She encouraged viewers to support the film, noting that its story is especially meaningful to members of the media.
