Comedian Ate Gay, whose real name is Gil Morales, continues to face her stage 4 cancer diagnosis with optimism, choosing to make the most of her life despite the difficult road ahead.

In a recent interview with Karen Davila, Ate Gay opened up about her ongoing battle with mucoepidermoid carcinoma, a type of cancer that commonly affects the salivary glands. She also recalled a difficult moment last year when a doctor told her that she might not even make it to 2026.
However, eight months into 2026, Ate Gay is still here, continuing her treatment and pursuing the things that bring meaning to her life.
She expressed gratitude toward the people who supported her throughout her journey, saying that she was amazed by how individuals from different walks of life came together to help her.

“Totoo pala yun eh. Pag gumawa ka ng mabuti, ibabalik sa’yo ni Lord,” she said.
Ate Gay also admitted that she initially struggled to accept the doctor's assessment because she did not feel any pain despite having a large lump on her neck.
“Hindi ako natakot. Umiyak lang ako dahil nalungkot ako sa sinabi ng doktor na para namang hindi totoo,” she admitted.
She was eventually referred to the Asian Hospital and Medical Center in Muntinlupa City, where she continues to receive treatment. Among the procedures she underwent was CyberKnife treatment, which uses targeted radiation on areas affected by cancer. Following the treatment, the lump on her neck was significantly reduced.
Despite her condition, Ate Gay has continued performing, although she limits her appearances to a few hours each night so she can get enough rest.
“Nagugulat nga yung mga tao: nagkasakit ba to? Habang kumakanta ako, nakatulala sila. After ko kumanta, [sinasabi ko] buhay ako. Buhay ako, hindi ako patay. Tapos pumapalakpak sila ang sabi ko wag niyo akong palakpakan, palakpakan niyo si Lord–– ang galing galing niya,” she shared.
For Ate Gay, continuing to live fully is part of her way of fighting. She said she does not want to waste the life she has been given and instead chooses to enjoy every moment.
“Lumaban kasi naniniwala ako na pag patay ka, patay ka na. Kaya yung buhay, dapat ienjoy. Hangga’t buhay ang tao dapat masaya. I-enjoy ang buhay, i-enjoy ang bigay ng Diyos, i-enjoy ang makulay na daigdig na gawa Niya, i-enjoy ang makulay na entablado na bitbit ko hanggang ngayon,” she said.
As she celebrates another birthday this August, Ate Gay remains hopeful that she will continue defying expectations and eventually overcome her illness.
“Yung 2026 na sinasabi na di ako aabot, biruin mo ilang buwan na–– 8 months. At aabot pa ako ng next year. Gusto ko pa mag-90,” she ended.

Meanwhile, Ate Gay clarified that reports claiming he is already cancer-free are inaccurate, explaining that he remains in the middle of his treatment journey. The comedian said he is still receiving CyberKnife treatment and immunotherapy for Stage 4 cancer. Although he has not yet been declared cancer-free, he shared that his overall condition has improved, including regaining his strength and beginning to put on weight again. Ate Gay expressed gratitude to God, his doctors, colleagues, family, and supporters who continue to stand by him and include him in their prayers.
