In the newsroom, colleagues remembered Gil as a disciplined and respected journalist.

Broadcast journalist Jessica Soho recalled their early newsroom years, saying,

“I don't have a lot of memories kasi usually 'pag sa work na alam mo 'yan, magkikita na lang kami doon and then we would both be busy typing our stories, putting our stories together.”

She also shared how Gil once indirectly gave her her first overseas assignment after declining a major state visit coverage.

“I owe him my first out of the country trip, my first overseas assignment,” Soho said.

Others remembered him as kind, approachable, and generous to younger reporters, often helping them during assignments and field coverage.

Jimmy Gil’s legacy remains in Philippine journalism, where he is honored not only for his work but also for his integrity, mentorship, and humanity.
