The singer-songwriter, who takes on one of his biggest acting roles yet in Regal Entertainment’s upcoming movie, made the revelation during the film’s media event. In the movie directed by Eric Quizon, Rico portrays Migo, one of the possible baby daddy candidates opposite Sue Ramirez’s character Sandy, ABS-CBN reported.
While discussing his preparation for the role, Rico admitted that he avoided researching other films or performances before shooting the project.
“I didn’t research for this movie, not really. I didn’t really research for it. Kasi even pag nag-record ako ng music, hindi po ako nakikinig ng music sa panahon na yun. So ganito din, pag may ginagawa akong movie, hindi ako nanunuod ng movies,” he shared.

He added that instead of drawing inspiration from another actor or fictional character, he relied mostly on his own personality in portraying the role.
“Kung ano na yung naaalala ko siguro. Parang wala naman akong na-channel. Kung gaano ito kalapit sa totoong personality ko? Siguro malaki-laking percentage din po,” Rico explained.
According to him, his role in Project Baby reflects more of his real-life personality compared to some of his previous acting projects.
“Compared to let’s say yung character ko sa Manila’s Finest, konti lang ako dun, pero dito siguro may baka umabot pa sa 50% eh,” he added.
During the same interview, Rico was asked which local actor impresses him the most. Without hesitation, he named John Lloyd Cruz.
“Si John Lloyd po ang favorite actor ko. Kaibigan ko siya pero kahit hindi ko siya kaibigan, siya pa rin talaga ang favorite actor ko,” Rico admitted.
He also recalled working with the actor in the 2010 ABS-CBN series Imortal, where their friendship started.
“Nakasama ko siya sa Imortal, so friends talaga kami,” he said.
Despite contributing some ideas during the development of Project Baby, Rico clarified that his involvement in the creative process was minimal.
“Konti lang po. Hindi po yata ako magaling eh. Siguro kung may ka-collaborate po, pero hindi ako magaling magsulat ng story,” he explained.
The musician also shared that he enjoys portraying difficult and layered characters, especially those connected to psychological thrillers.
“Hindi ko alam basta yung mahirap na roles. Okay sa akin yung psychological thriller. Gusto ko po yun,” Rico said with a laugh.
Aside from Rico and Sue Ramirez, the film also stars Alice Dixson, Alex Calleja, Matt Lozano, Arra San Agustin, Yasser Marta, and several other cast members. Project Baby is set to open in cinemas nationwide on June 10.
Rico Blanco is a 53-year-old Filipino singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and actor who was born in Manila and rose to legendary status as one of the founding members and chief songwriters of the iconic 1990s alternative rock band Rivermaya. Following his departure from the band in 2007, he successfully transitioned into a highly acclaimed solo career, establishing himself as an influential pillar of Pinoy rock through massive hits like "Antukin" and "Yugto," while also expanding his reach into acting and business ventures.
In another report, Rico Blanco openly reflected on his past views about relationships, admitting that he once had a naive belief that love alone could make everything work. The veteran singer-songwriter realized over time that mutual affection is sometimes not enough, especially when differences in timing and age begin to affect a relationship.
Meanwhile, Rico Blanco also revealed that he is still open to falling in love again someday. During his guest appearance on “Fast Talk with Boy Abunda,” the singer reflected on a period in his life when he believed remaining single was the best choice for him.
