The two actresses currently work together in the Prime Original series Love is Never Gone, and Fyang became candid when asked about her experience working with one of Philippine showbiz’s most respected and famously strict veterans.
Speculations had surfaced online claiming that Dina had allegedly shown attitude toward the younger actress at some point during filming. Fyang immediately dismissed the claims.
“No, never,” she said.

“At tsaka hindi kasi nila kilala si Mommy D bilang nanay. Hindi nila kilala si Ms. D kapag walang camera. Nakakapag-judge lang naman sila kapag may camera. Pero kapag nakilala talaga nila si Ms. D nang husto, masasabi talaga nila na sobrang bait ng nanay ko talaga.”
She added that people may interpret things differently, but according to her, Dina has always been genuinely kind to her.
“Depende na sa tao 'yun kung bibigyan nila ng meaning. Pero one thing is for sure, sobrang bait talaga. 'Yun talaga 'yun.”
Fans were reportedly surprised after learning how close the two had become, especially because Dina is known in the industry for being highly disciplined and strict when it comes to professionalism on set.
Fyang admitted that she was initially intimidated by the veteran actress because of her reputation.
“Nakakatuwa. Kasi at first, natatakot talaga ako kay Mama D na ‘Hala, baka pagalitan niya ako.’ Pero parang first day palang ng taping namin, naging close na kami. I don't know how. Pero bigla kaming nag-click. Maingay din kasi si Mama D,” she shared.
Their friendship eventually grew naturally through simple bonding moments behind the scenes. Fyang revealed that even before they had scenes together, she would already visit Dina in her room just to tease and hug her.
“Actually kami ni Mama, wala pa kaming eksena, lagi akong pumupunta sa kwarto niya para guluhin siya. Swear. Lagi ko siyang ginugulo na parang minsan pag natutulog siya, yayakap lang ako,” she said with a laugh.
According to Fyang, Dina would also spend time with her and fellow cast members in their dressing room, where they would casually chat and share stories.
Their closeness eventually reached the point where Fyang felt comfortable opening up about personal matters.
“Sobrang close kami ni Mama. As in, kaya ko nang mag-open sa kanya. Ganu'ng point ng closeness namin.”
One of the gestures that deeply touched Fyang was when Dina cooked butter shrimp for her despite being allergic to shrimp herself.
“Nagtanong siya sa akin, ‘What do you want to eat?’ I said, ‘Mom, my favorite food is buttered shrimp eh. Pero I know you're allergic, so 'wag na lang.’ Nagulat ako na niluto talaga ng nanay ko.”
Beyond friendship, Fyang also said Dina taught her valuable lessons about professionalism, particularly the importance of punctuality.
“One thing na natutunan ko kay Ms. D talaga is 'yung you have to be on time. Kailangan talaga. Mahalaga kasi kay Ms. D 'yung one minute. Kung calltime mo 11, dumating ka ng 11:01, you're still late.”
She added that respecting other people’s time is something she now takes seriously because of Dina’s influence.
“You have to respect 'yung time ng iba na dumating on time. And at the same time, 'pag ginawa mo 'yun sa kanila, babalik din naman sa'yo 'yun. So be on time talaga kay Mama D.”
Dina Bonnevie is a 64-year-old multi-award-winning Filipino actress born to a Swiss mother and a French-Italian-Filipino father, and she is the proud mother of actors Danica and Oyo Boy Sotto.
In another report, Dina Bonnevie expressed her affectionate regard for Fyang Smith, whom she fondly referred to as her “anak-anakan.” She shared that despite the young actress previously facing criticism over alleged attitude issues during public appearances, her personal experience with Fyang has been different.
Meanwhile, Dina Bonnevie also spoke about her warm relationship with Fyang Smith while working together on the same series. She described the young star as playful in nature but praised her dedication and talent when it comes to acting.
