Renowned Philippine icon and National Artist Nora Aunor has passed away, as confirmed by her son, Ian De Leon.

Initial reports suggested her death occurred during a medical procedure, but De Leon later clarified that was not the case.
Speaking to media at Heritage Park in Taguig, De Leon explained the sequence of events leading to his mother’s passing.
“She was being operated on and after that she had a hard time breathing and eventually things went downhill from there. That’s why they had to do another procedure after that,” he said, without disclosing the exact nature of her illness.

Ian was joined by his siblings Lotlot, Matet, and Kenneth as they extended their heartfelt gratitude to the public for the unwavering love shown to their mother.
He described Aunor as a selfless individual who always placed others before herself.
“Uunahin niya ang ibang tao bago ang sarili. Hinayaan niyang maging inspirasyon sa karamihan yung ginagawa niyang pagkanta, pag gawa ng pelikula. Ginusto niya yung gawin dahil gusto niya iparating sa mga tao na ang tao rin ang nagbibigay ng lakas sa kaniya. Tao rin ang nagbibigay ng pagmamahal sa kaniya.,” he shared.
“Kaya siya naging Superstar, kaya siya naging National Artist. Dahil yun sa pagmamahal, dahil yun sa binigay ng Panginoon at paniniwala kay Hesukristo.”
According to De Leon, Aunor passed away on Wednesday evening, surrounded by family and loved ones.
“We are profoundly grateful to everyone who has reached out with love, prayers, condolences..." he said, expressing deep appreciation for the overwhelming support from fans nationwide.
Nora Aunor was a celebrated Filipino actress, singer, and producer. Known as the 'Superstar of Philippine cinema, she has earned critical acclaim for her powerful performances in films such as Himala, Bona, and The Flor Contemplacion Story. Her contributions to the arts were recognized in 2022 when she was named National Artist for Film and Broadcast Arts. In 1975, Nora married fellow actor Christopher de Leon. They have one biological son, Ian de Leon, and adopted four children: Lotlot, Matet, Kiko, and Kenneth de Leon.
