Actor Dingdong Dantes paid tribute to the late Quirino Governor Dakila “Dax” Cua, remembering him as a great leader, a dependable friend, and a good person.

In a Facebook post on Thursday, Dantes shared a heartfelt message about his late friend, recalling their first meeting in the early 2000s and the friendship that followed.
Dantes said he met Cua at a party hosted by their common friend, Tita Nelly King. At the time, he initially mistook Cua for a basketball player because of his height and demeanor.
“Pero sabi sa akin, siya raw pala ang pinakabatang Vice Governor sa buong Pilipinas nung panahong ’yon,” Dantes recalled.

The actor said he was around 21 years old when they met, while Cua was only three years older. He remembered being impressed by how much the young politician had already accomplished.
The two eventually sat beside each other during the gathering and began talking about their dreams and aspirations for the youth and the country. Their conversation also included basketball and other topics over whiskey.
“And I guess that was the start of our friendship,” Dantes wrote.
Through the years, Dantes said he witnessed Cua’s dedication to public service and became hopeful that he would one day become one of the country’s finest leaders.
“Kahit noon pa lang, nakita ko na kung paano siya mag-isip at magtrabaho. And through the years, lalo ko lang nakita kung gaano kaseryoso ang hangarin niyang maglingkod,” he said.
Dantes also emphasized that Cua’s impact extended beyond his public position. He described him as a kind friend and someone people could count on.
“Napakabait niyang kaibigan. Napakatotoong tao. Someone you could count on,” the actor said.
He revealed that Cua was also the godfather of his eldest child. For Dantes, those who personally knew the late governor would remember not only his accomplishments but also the person he was away from the crowds, cameras, titles, and positions.
“Sa lahat ng accomplishments niya in public service, I think those of us who knew him personally will remember just as much the kind of person he was when there were no crowds, cameras, titles, or positions involved,” he said.
Dantes further reflected on Cua’s name, Dakila, saying it was fitting for someone whose aspirations for the country and whose heart were both great.
“Dakila ang kanyang hangarin para sa ating bayan. Pero higit sa lahat, dakila ang kanyang puso,” he wrote.
The actor also recalled their birthday tradition. Despite not seeing each other often, they made it a point to greet each other every year. Dantes admitted that he often got Cua’s November birthday wrong, greeting him either two days early or two days late.
“This November 4 will be different,” Dantes wrote.
He said he would no longer have a birthday to greet incorrectly, but chose to think of the occasion as a new birthday marking the beginning of eternal life.
Dantes ended his tribute with an emotional farewell to his friend.
“Paalam, Dax. I was always looking forward to seeing how far you would go. I just never imagined we would have to say goodbye this soon,” he said.
He described Cua as a sensible and capable leader, a dependable friend, and above all, a good person.
“Isang matino at magaling na lider. Maasahang kaibigan. At higit sa lahat, mabuting tao,” Dantes wrote.
“Maraming salamat sa lahat, brader.”
Cua’s father, former governor and congressman Junie Cua, announced his death on Tuesday. The cause of death was not disclosed.
Dingdong Dantes is a prominent Filipino actor, television presenter, and director who has established himself as one of GMA Network's leading primetime stars. Alongside his successful career in entertainment and advocacy, he is a devoted family man to his wife, Marian Rivera, and their children, Zia and Ziggy.
In another report, Dingdong Dantes shared that he will be taking a temporary break from hosting “Family Feud” to concentrate on the upcoming tapings of his GMA series, “The Master Cutter.” Michael V. is set to fill in as the program’s host starting September 17. Before his brief departure, Dingdong addressed a heartfelt message to Michael V. and the show’s dedicated viewers.
Meanwhile, Dingdong Dantes expressed his support for the possibility of his daughter, Zia, joining “The Voice Kids.” The actor even hopes that Marian Rivera could guide their daughter as her coach should she enter the competition. At just nine years old, Zia has already earned recognition for her musical talent, while she continues to explore her skills by learning different musical instruments.
