Pura Luka Vega, as the drag queen is known in the LGBTQIA+ community, finally broke his silence amid the widespread bashings he has received after footage of his controversial performance at a party surfaced online.
It can be recalled that Pura Luka Vega was seen in a video appearing at a party seemingly dressed to look like Jesus Christ.
While standing in the midst of partygoers, the drag queen shouted to everyone present: “Thank you for coming to church!”
In the background, one can hear what sounded like a remixed and upbeat version of “Ama Namin,” a church hymn that is well-known to all Catholics.

The crowd were also seen jumping and dancing to the remixed background music, with some of them even singing along with it.
In his Twitter Spaces post, he explained in detail what happened that night and also addressed the main issue being hurled his way.
“Feeling ko I was very careful when I did that because I don't want to come across something that's very offensive,” Pura Luka Vega said.
He also admitted that the music was intentional so as to challenge everyone’s notions on how one should worship or sing prayers.
“I also did that intentionally to challenge our notions of how we worship or how we sing our prayers,” the drag queen added.
He then appeared to pose a question for those bashing him and said that he wasn’t trying to demean anything.
Was it offensive because I am qu33r individual or was it for other factors? It was in no way trying to demean naman,” Pura Luka Vega said in his Twitter Spaces post.
A drag party is a type of social gathering where drag artists impersonating men or women would often show their prowess. Drag artists, such as drag queen Pura Luka Vega, would usually wear clothing and makeup to imitate present or historical personalities to the point of exaggeration for entertainment. Drag queens would also often perform pre-planned acts with audience interaction.

Recently, Philippine Senator JV Ejercito took to Twitter and aired his dismay over a video that has gone viral. He stated that it was blasphemy, it disrespects his faith and that things have gone overboard. The video showed a drag party, where Jesus was imitated. Around him, partygoers were singing a fast version of "Ama Namin."
In some cases, drag queens would impersonate a popular living person to entertain the audience. Such was the case of Xilhouete when she impersonated popular cosmetic doctor, Dr. Vicki Belo. After learning about the performance of Xilhouete, the celebrity doctor took to social media to react to the drag queen's clip impersonating her. Dr. Vicki said she was flattered because "I know you have to be famous to be impersonated." The prominent dermatologist also hilariously clarified that she can move her face.
