During their appearance on “Gandang Gabi Vice,” the two singers discussed their experiences with heartbreak. Their remarks were also featured in an ABS-CBN News quote card, which credited ABS-CBN Entertainment’s YouTube content.
For Maki, part of what made the experience difficult was its timing. He recalled being left when he was already going through a particularly low point in his life.
“Ang pangit kasi ’yong iiwan ka tapos nasa lowest point ka ng life mo, ’yon ang mahirap talaga,” he said in the quote card.

The singer-songwriter explained that the experience taught him something about how he processes hurt. He realized that he did not need to distract himself from what he was feeling.
“So ako, noong time na ’yon, ni-learn ko sa sarili ko na hindi ko kailangang i-distract ang sarili ko...” he shared.
He went on to describe himself as someone who needs to experience his emotions fully before making room for new ones.
“Ako ’yong type ng tao na gusto kong damdamin ko lahat hanggang sa ubos na, saka ako magpi-feel nang bagong emotions.”
His answer focused on allowing himself to go through the sadness. For him, feeling the hurt was part of processing what had happened.
The “Dilaw” singer also discussed the relationship behind his heartbreak during the interview. According to GMA Entertainment’s report on the episode, he shared that his former partner had also been his best friend before they became a couple.
He recalled that after their breakup, his former partner went to the person he had previously felt jealous of. Maki described the experience as a betrayal and spoke about how painful experiences had influenced his songwriting.
Meanwhile, Gian gave a shorter answer when discussing his own way of dealing with heartbreak. Like his fellow guest, the Cup of Joe vocalist described letting himself feel the pain.
“I just feel the pain hanggang sa wala na akong maramdaman,” he said.
His statement echoed the part of Maki’s answer about experiencing difficult emotions fully. Both spoke about what they personally do when dealing with hurt.
While Maki explained the circumstances that made his heartbreak particularly difficult, Gian summed up his approach in a single sentence. Their answers offered a personal look at how each of them handles painful experiences beyond their work as performers.
As a co-lead singer and founding member of pop-rock hitmaker Cup of Joe, Edgar Gian P. Bernardino has earned widespread acclaim in the Philippine music scene. Born in 2001, the multi-talented artist is steadily expanding his creative legacy, stepping into music video directing and forging an exciting solo acting career.
A couple of months ago, the Cup of Joe lead singer candidly opened up about his personal life journey on Eva Le Queen's podcast. Reflecting on advice for his younger self, Gian emphasized learning to seek self-validation rather than external approval. The talented artist admitted this realization stemmed from his past struggles with constantly trying to please everyone around him. Gian also courageously revealed he faced severe bullying after relocating from Qatar to the Philippines for senior high school.
Previously, Gian explained why entering a romantic relationship is currently not his priority on a podcast interview. The Cup of Joe star admitted his thriving career and grueling schedule leave very little room for romantic commitment. Gian shared that the relentless demands of show business frequently drain his energy, leaving him exhausted outside of work. For now, Gian remains happily single as he intentionally focuses on personal growth, self-love, and achieving inner peace.
