In an interview on “Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho’s” “Gabi ng Lagim,” he discussed the circumstances surrounding the actress’ illness. He also addressed an alleged phone call their mother received while Julie was hospitalized.
According to Joseph, his younger sister died because of multiple sclerosis. He maintained that the family did not witness anything during her illness that supported claims of supernatural involvement.
“Although totoo na naririnig namin after noon na yung pinaggawan [shooting] meron yatang supernatural doon, pero nung nagkasakit siya wala namang manifestation,” he explained.

“Wala namang ganun. Lahat talaga sa sakit eh,” he added.
The program shared that the family had repeatedly declined interview requests over the years. Joseph explained that these requests often leaned toward stories of alleged paranormal activity surrounding his sister.
Speculation had followed a horror film in which the young actress played a character possessed by an evil entity. Stories about supposed strange occurrences at the filming location also became linked to her passing.
For her brother, however, those accounts did not explain what happened when Julie became ill.
He recalled that her condition had already become serious when the family learned about her illness. Its progression, he said, was quick.
“Masyado nang mabilis ang progress. Pero tinatanong namin bakit siya nagkaroon ng ganun?” he shared.
Joseph also said he had never experienced anything unusual while sleeping in his sister’s former bedroom.
Still, there was one account he acknowledged he could not explain: a reported phone call to their mother while the actress was confined in the hospital.
According to the story discussed in the interview, Julie supposedly called home to say that she would soon be leaving.
“Nung tumawag siya sa bahay, alam ko ’yon. I cannot explain that,” he said.
Joseph shared his personal belief that his sister’s desire to speak to their mother might explain the experience. However, he did not consider it proof that something from the filming location had caused her illness or death.
“Pero kung may spin na may mamaw doon para tumawag sa bahay, I don’t think so. Not necessarily may kinalaman dun sa pinag-shootingan nila.”
The interview also offered a look at the belongings he has kept in his Quezon City office. These included Julie’s FAMAS Awards, photographs, albums, and her Hello Kitty telephone.
Among the preserved items was the “magic dress” she wore in “Mga Mata ni Angelita,” another reminder of her work as a young actress.
