The Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) has released details of the hearing conducted in connection with the controversy surrounding the July 24, 2026 episode of It’s Showtime.

The issue stemmed from the “Memerimar” skit featured during the program’s “Laro Laro Pick” segment, which drew criticism over an allegedly racist and colorist remark attributed to Vice Ganda. The same episode also generated discussion because of the “lugaw” scene involving Vice Ganda and fellow host Ion Perez.

Following public reactions and complaints, the MTRCB, through its Hearing and Adjudication Committee, convened a formal hearing with the parties involved.

In an official statement posted on social media, the agency confirmed that representatives and legal counsels from It’s Showtime, ABS-CBN Corporation, GMA Network Inc., ZOE Broadcasting Network, Inc., and ALLTV attended the proceedings.

“The Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB), through its Hearing and Adjudication Committee, convened a hearing with the representatives and legal counsels of ‘It’s Showtime,’ ABS-CBN Corporation, GMA Network Inc., Zoe Broadcasting Network, Inc., and ALLTV regarding issues arising from the noontime show’s July 24, 2026 episode.”

According to the MTRCB, the hearing provided all parties with the opportunity to explain their respective positions as part of the due process required in administrative proceedings.

“During the hearing, the parties were given the opportunity to present their respective explanations as part of due process.”

The Board also reiterated its authority and responsibilities under existing laws governing television content.

“The Board likewise reiterated its mandate under Presidential Decree No. 1986 and its Implementing Rules and Regulations (IRR) to ensure that television programming remains compliant with established broadcast standards.”

As part of the next stage of the proceedings, the Hearing and Adjudication Committee directed the respondents to file additional documents within a specified period.

“The Committee directed the respondents to file a verified Joint Position Paper within seven (7) calendar days and submit a Joint Undertaking outlining concrete measures to strengthen compliance with MTRCB standards, particularly in relation to live, improvised, and comedy segments.”

In addition, the MTRCB instructed the respondents to appoint an On-Air Compliance Officer who will be tasked with monitoring live broadcasts and taking immediate action whenever necessary.

“The respondents were likewise instructed to designate an On-Air Compliance Officer authorized to monitor live broadcasts and immediately intervene, when necessary, to help prevent potential violations of MTRCB rules and regulations.”

The agency concluded its statement by emphasizing its continuing commitment to responsible broadcasting and the protection of television viewers, particularly younger audiences.

“The Agency reaffirmed its full commitment to the shared responsibility of promoting responsible viewership through protecting and guiding young Filipino viewers and conscientiously listening to viewers’ feedback.”

The MTRCB’s latest statement did not announce any final ruling or sanction. Instead, it outlined the procedural steps that will follow the hearing, including the submission of the required documents and the proposed compliance measures from the respondents.
