Veteran broadcast journalist Kara David reaffirmed her commitment to genuine public service after receiving three recognitions at the recent FAMAS Broadcast Arts Awards, including a shared Best Host for Public Service award with actress and content creator Ivana Alawi.

David discussed the recognition during her guest appearance on Fast Talk with Boy Abunda, where she addressed the growing presence of different storytelling platforms. While acknowledging the evolving media landscape, she emphasized that journalism, vlogging, and other forms of content creation each have their own place in reaching audiences.
“Nirerespeto ko at natutuwa ako na maraming iba't ibang tao na gumagamit ng kapangyarihan ng storytelling para makatulong sa iba. So, I acknowledge na iba-iba tayo ng platform,” sabi ni Kara.
Although she welcomed the diversity of platforms, David also shared a reminder about the purpose of serving the public.

Her statement drew attention as online conversations continued following the awards ceremony. Some social media users expressed the opinion that journalists and content creators should compete in separate categories during award-giving events, particularly in public service recognition. David, however, did not directly address those suggestions and instead focused on her belief that public service should remain centered on helping others.
Aside from the shared Best Host for Public Service award, David's podcast i-Listen earned the Best Public Affairs Talk Show honor. Meanwhile, her acclaimed i-Witness documentary, Embalsamador de Motor, was recognized as the Best Documentary during the ceremony.
Following her victories, David also took to Instagram to reflect on what makes i-Listen meaningful to her. She said one of the most fulfilling aspects of producing the podcast is meeting people from different walks of life and hearing their inspiring experiences.
“At the same time, I also get to interview celebrities and discover the person behind the fame and the spotlight. Celebrity man o hindi, lahat tayo may kuwentong dapat pakinggan. Kuwento na kapupulutan natin ng aral,” sabi ni Kara.
She also expressed gratitude to the FAMAS Broadcast Arts Awards for recognizing their efforts. In a separate post, the veteran journalist thanked those who continue to support their work and assured the public that she and her team will strive to do even better in delivering stories that inform, inspire, and serve Filipinos.
Kara David is an acclaimed Filipino broadcast journalist, television host, and professor at the University of the Philippines Diliman, widely recognized for her investigative work on GMA Network's i-Witness. Beyond her award-winning documentary career—which includes a Peabody Award—she is also the founder of Project Malasakit, a non-profit foundation providing education and aid to underprivileged communities featured in her stories.
In another report, Ivana Alawi expressed heartfelt gratitude after receiving two awards at the FAMAS Broadcast Arts Awards. The actress and content creator was recognized for Best Public Service Show and Best Host for Public Service, the latter of which she shared with Kara David. Ivana thanked FAMAS for honoring her work and also expressed appreciation to her supporters for their unwavering trust and encouragement. She added that every blessing she receives motivates her to continue helping others and giving back to the community.
Meanwhile, Kara David addressed online criticism surrounding her I-Witness documentary on an alleged illegal dumpsite in Subic. The veteran journalist explained that her team spent more than a month investigating the issue, interviewing members of the Ayta community, officials from the DENR and NCIP, and representatives from the local government. She emphasized that the DENR had declared the dumpsite illegal, while the mayor's office acknowledged accountability during the documentary. Boss Toyo later apologized for his earlier remarks, clarified that he had only shared what he personally witnessed, and thanked Kara for bringing attention to the community's situation.
