Department of Education Schools Division of Davao de Oro said it would not tolerate any form of violence or misconduct following the reported assault on a teacher by two students.

The incident happened at Elizalde National High School in Maco, Davao de Oro, on Monday, July 27.
According to GMA’s Unang Balita, the division assured the public that it would not tolerate or overlook the incident. It also urged people to refrain from spreading false or unverified information while the investigation continues.
Officials are still gathering details to establish what happened and determine the appropriate action.

A video shared on social media reportedly showed a male student confronting the teacher after being reminded that wearing an earring violated the school’s policy.
Another student, identified as the learner’s brother, allegedly became involved. Other students eventually intervened and stopped the confrontation.
The 55-year-old teacher sustained injuries and received medical attention. GMA Regional TV also reported that he gave a statement to the Maco Municipal Police Station.
Both students involved are minors. Following the incident, they were brought to the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office for proper care and assistance.
DepEd Region XI spokesperson Jeneilito Atillo said officials were waiting for a complete report from the division.
“We are still awaiting the final and official incident report coming from the Schools Division Office of Davao de Oro,” he said.
Atillo added that the teacher received medical intervention following the confrontation.
The case was also referred to the school’s guidance office for administrative action. Since minors are involved, the matter is expected to be handled according to child protection rules and proper procedures.
The school administration had yet to issue a detailed public statement about the incident. Its principal also declined to give an on-camera interview when approached by GMA Regional TV.
Following the incident, the Teachers’ Dignity Coalition renewed its call for a comprehensive policy that would provide stronger protection for teachers.
The group also called for better guidance and counseling programs in schools. These services could help schools address behavioral concerns and prevent similar incidents.
Another teachers’ organization, the Alliance of Concerned Teachers, said learners involved in such cases should receive proper guidance and support alongside appropriate disciplinary measures. The group also emphasized the need to protect teachers while observing students’ rights and due process. The Philippine Star reported that the organization again pushed for the passage of the Teacher Protection Bill.
DepEd has not announced a final decision or disciplinary action as its investigation remains underway.
