Miss World Philippines organization expressed concern on the safety and well-being of the country’s representative to the Miss Eco International pageant, Ms. Kelley Day, after it was reported that several candidates tested positive for COVID-19 infection.
The statement did not indicate whether Kelley is among the pageant candidates who turned up positive.
Kelley Day won 1st runner-up in the recently concluded Miss Eco International, which was held in Egypt.
Unfortunately, many pageant candidates were not allowed to leave the country after their exit swab test found them infected with the deadly coronavirus.
There were also sketchy reports about Dr. Amaal Rezk, the pageant owner, herself testing positive for the infection.
In an Instagram post, Jessica Newton, the national director for Miss Peru’s organization, said: “@missperuofficial won’t send another queen to this pageant anymore, what [happened] was out of a terror movie and is not over yet. In the beginning, I believed it was just gossip but it is worse [than] you can imagine!”
In their official statement, MWP said they are now closely coordinating with the Miss Eco International group in “ensuring the health and safety of all candidates in its recently concluded pageant.”
Mr. Arnold Vegafria, the National Director of MWP, said that the Philippines’ bet for the pageant, Kelley Day, “remains their topmost priority.”
