“She’s just getting started. Our young athlete still has much more to achieve.”
Marcos later shared a congratulatory message through his official social media page, thanking Eala for inspiring the next generation of Filipinos to pursue their dreams despite the challenges that come with competing on the global stage.
“Thank you for showing young Filipinos that they, too, can dream big and reach the world’s biggest stage.”
The President assured Eala that the entire country continues to stand behind her as she competes against the world's best athletes.
“Keep it up. We’ll all be here. The whole Filipino nation is cheering you on.”
“We know that you are fighting, making us proud, and bringing luster and honor to the Philippines.”
Eala's remarkable campaign became even more historic after she stunned defending Wimbledon champion and world No. 3 Iga Swiatek of Poland in the third round with a 7-6(9), 6-2 victory.
The win made her the first Filipino in the Open Era to reach the fourth round, also known as the second week, of a Grand Slam tournament.
Despite the milestone, Eala remained humble, dedicating her success not only to her family but also to Filipinos who have continuously supported her journey and to young girls who dream of achieving similar success.
“It’s incredible to have my countrymen cheering me on, and knowing that we’re all in this together. So this goes out to them, this goes out to my family, this goes out to all of the little girls with ruffled socks and chubby cheeks. It means the world.”
Eala's historic Wimbledon journey is not over yet, as she is set to face world No. 13 Jasmine Paolini of Italy, the 2024 Wimbledon runner-up, in the next round.
Alex Eala is a trailblazing 21-year-old Filipino professional tennis player who has consistently made history for the Philippines, reaching a career-high WTA singles ranking of world No. 29. She recently captured global headlines at the 2026 Wimbledon Championships by stunning defending champion Iga Świątek to become the first Filipino player in the Open Era to advance to the second week of a Grand Slam.
In another report, Manny Pacquiao expressed how proud he is of Alex Eala as she continues to represent the Philippines on the WTA Tour. He encouraged the 20-year-old tennis standout to remain focused despite the criticism she receives. Eala recently advanced to the quarterfinals of the Dubai Tennis Championships and reached a career-high world ranking of No. 31. Despite the comparisons, she said she is still determined to carve out her own journey.
Meanwhile, Risa Hontiveros refuted viral claims that she had asked tennis star Alex Eala for an endorsement. The senator said the allegations originated from AI-generated content circulating online. She also posted screenshots on Facebook of posts from Jay Sonza and Malou Tiquia. Hontiveros likewise called on Meta to take action against the spread of fabricated posts.
