Pinay tennis star Alex Eala becomes 1st Filipino to win junior Grand Slam title

Alex Eala made history by becoming the first Filipino to win a junior Grand Slam singles title at the prestigious 2022 US Open Championships in New York City.
In the finals match, Alex – the number 10 seed – defeated Czech No. 2 seed Lucie Havlickova with the scores of 6-2, 6-4 last September 10.
On Instagram, sports reporter Dyan Castillejo uploaded a video of the 17-year-old tennis star’s speech after winning the championship.
Alex made a lot of Filipinos proud not only by winning the title but also by speaking Tagalog during her speech.

She thanked her parents and all of the people who supported her in her journey. Furthermore, Alex is hoping that her historic win can contribute to the future of the Philippines.
“Nagpapasalamat ako sa pamilya ko. Kasi kung hindi dahil sa kanila, hindi ko talaga ito kakayanin. Maraming salamat din sa lahat ng nagdasal at nagsuporta sa akin.
“Buong puso ko itong ipinaglaban, hindi lang para sa sarili ko kundi para makatulong din ako sa kinabukasan ng Pilipinas. So hindi lang ito panalo ko, panalo nating lahat. Thank you,” Alex said.
Alex Eala is a 17-year-old tennis star from the Philippines. She made history by becoming the first Filipino to win a junior Grand Slam singles title at the prestigious 2022 US Open Championships in New York City. Alex is the highest-ranked Filipino female singles player in Women’s Tennis Association history.

A photo and a couple of clips of the newlyweds outside the hotel after the earthquake were uploaded on social media.
