Joy Barcoma has shared her thoughts regarding Senator Risa Hontiveros' latest move involving the Germany-based developer of the video game Gorebox following the Tacloban school shooting.

Barcoma reposted a news report stating that Senator Hontiveros intends to seek the assistance of the German Embassy in the Philippines after the game's developer declined to appear at the Senate hearing scheduled for July 1, 2026.

According to the report, Hontiveros emphasized that companies operating in the Philippines should cooperate with local authorities.

"Sen Risa, parang mali ang pinagtutuunan natin ng atensyon."

"Hindi po mawawala ang panganib sa mga bata kapag nawala ang isang laro."

Barcoma stressed that stronger parental guidance and community support should remain the priority.

She continued:

"Ang kailangan ay mas maayos na pag-gabay ng nakatatanda, edukasyon, mental health support, at early intervention."

As discussions continued online, Barcoma later posted an addendum acknowledging the explanations shared by other users.

She wrote:

"Salamat for all the clarifications."

She also said:

"I understand na ang concern talaga ay ginagamit ang video games ng masasamang grupo to brainwash kids to do bad things."

While recognizing that concern, she maintained that responsibility should extend beyond gaming platforms.

"If that is the case, this is a good starting point."

She further stated:

"Pero kahit ganoon, mas mabigat pa rin dapat ang pressure sa atin (sa pamilya, paaralan, komunidad, at mismong gobyerno) na protektahan ang mga bata."

Barcoma also acknowledged that digital platforms should answer for any wrongdoing.

She said:

"Ang mga platform ay dapat managot kung may mali, pero ang kaligtasan ng ating kabataan ay hindi dapat nakasalalay sa actions ng isang game/developer."

She concluded her message with a call for compassion and support for young people.

"For now, let us be a safe space for our youth."
