Authorities immediately launched search and rescue operations after receiving reports of the incident, which occurred amid heavy rainfall and strong winds in the area.
According to a report by Jandi Esteban on GMA Regional TV One Mindanao on Friday, one of the victims was already dead when rescuers recovered him. The second man was rushed to a hospital for medical attention but eventually succumbed to his injuries.
The wife of one of the victims recounted how they had initially left the bunkhouse when the weather conditions worsened. She said the strong winds and rain were believed to have been accompanied by a possible tornado.

However, her husband remained behind at the structure, which was situated directly beneath the mango tree that eventually fell.
Police Major and Talomo Police Station Commander Sheryl Bautista explained that the tree had been standing for many decades. She also described the construction of the bunkhouse and how the falling branch struck the structure.
“Century-old na siya na mangga, according sa mga barangay official. Ang bahay ng namatay ay parang bunkhouse lang, made of light materials, nasa ilalim ng punong mangga. That is why nung naputol yung malaking sanga, dumiretso talaga doon sa bunkhouse,” Bautista said.
The police official's account indicated that the structure's location beneath the old tree contributed to the fatal outcome when its large branch broke off.
The incident prompted authorities to conduct rescue efforts and assess the circumstances surrounding the collapse. The available report did not provide further details about the victims' identities or any additional damage caused by the falling tree.
In another report, a man was killed in a shooting outside a school in Barangay Prinza, Teresa, Rizal, on Thursday afternoon, prompting police to pursue the suspected gunman. According to GMA News' "Unang Balita," the victim sustained a gunshot wound to the head at around 4 p.m. The assailant reportedly fled the scene immediately after the attack. A video of the incident that went viral online showed the victim sprawled on the ground while his live-in partner remained beside him, holding their infant child.
Meanwhile, a motorcycle shop owner in Davao City was wounded after an armed man shot him in the arm when he attempted to resist a robbery. A report by "Unang Balita" stated that the suspect entered the establishment wearing a helmet and threatened the owner with a firearm. The latter tried to fight back, but the assailant fired a shot, hitting him in the arm. The suspect eventually escaped amid the commotion, leaving the shop owner injured.
