According to EJ Gomez’s report on GMA’s Unang Balita, the official sustained a wound in his side. People at the scene worked together to give him first aid following the incident.
The chairman had responded to reports involving a 33-year-old woman who was allegedly carrying a knife and causing a disturbance in the middle of the road. Before his arrival, the suspect had reportedly stabbed a female friend with whom she had argued.
Recounting what happened, the barangay official said people were afraid to pass through the area because the woman was armed.

“Yung babae ay may dalang kutsilyo at nagwawala doon sa gitna ng kalsada. So yung mga tao po na gustong dumaan hindi makadaan dahil natatakot,” he told GMA News.
He explained that he saw an opportunity to intervene when the woman suddenly turned away. He tried to take the knife or restrain her, but the situation changed quickly.
“Biglaang tumalikod siya. Doon ako nagkaroon ng pagkakataon para kunin yung kutsilyo o hawakan siya,” the chairman said.
According to his account, the woman moved the knife to her right hand and stabbed him before he could stop her.
Barangay tanods subsequently arrested the suspect. An approximately eight-inch bladed weapon was also recovered.
The report showed the woman continuing to act disruptively at the Antipolo Police station, where she could not initially be interviewed properly.
Based on the investigation cited in the news segment, the suspect was allegedly intoxicated when the incident happened. Investigators also alleged that she used illegal drúgs, a claim she denied during her interview.
Speaking to GMA News, the woman admitted stabbing her friend. She claimed that the friend had threatened to kill her after she refused to sell illegal drúgs.
“Papatayin daw niya ako. Siguro po dahil nakainom ako, hindi ko po napigilan kaya ’yun, nagawa ko na saktan siya,” she said.
However, the suspect maintained that she had not intended to stab the barangay chairman who intervened.
“Lasing po ako. Hindi ko po ’yun sinasadya,” she told the reporter.
She also denied using illegal drúgs and instead made drug-related allegations against the friend she had stabbed. These remain her claims, and the report did not include a response from the other woman.
GMA News said it was still trying to obtain the friend’s statement. She was recovering at the time of the report.
The suspect faces complaints for alarms and scandals, direct assault, and an alleged violation of a city ordinance, according to the news segment. The report did not mention a court ruling on these complaints.
