The incident gained attention online after Eala was seen confronting a fan who allegedly threw a hat at her as she was leaving the center court. The athlete had been approached by spectators who were waiting for an opportunity to ask for her autograph.
Leviste, who was present at the venue, also captured part of the moment on video. He later shared the footage on social media after the incident began circulating online.
In the viral clip, Eala could be seen walking away from the court before approaching the spectators. One fan appeared to throw a hat toward her, prompting the tennis player to return and address the spectator.

“Sir, hindi ka dapat nagtatapon ng mga gamit sa mga player. If you say it nicely, I will sign for you. Pero huwag ka magtapon, please,” ani Alex.
The fan could then be heard apologizing to Eala.
Leviste later discussed what he witnessed during an exclusive interview with KALURKS!. He explained that he had been seated in the gallery section and noticed several fans gathering near the area where Eala was expected to pass after leaving the court.
“Galing ako sa section namin sa gallery kung saan kami nakaupo at napansin ko na may mga nag-ipon na mga fans and spectators na inaabangan si Alex na lumabas ng court papasok doon sa kanilang dugout,” kuwento niya.
According to Leviste, he did not immediately notice the moment when the hat was allegedly thrown. He only learned about the incident after returning to his hotel and seeing the video go viral.
“'Yung moment kung saan diumano naghagis ng sumbrero o cap ang isang fan, hindi ko siya napansin. Napansin ko na lang sa aking pag-uwi sa hotel na nag-viral 'yung video ng paghagis ng sumbrero kay Alex.”
Leviste also pointed out something he noticed after reviewing the footage he personally recorded. He said the video appeared to show that the hat was allegedly thrown more than once.
“Doon sa video na nakunan ko, hindi lang pala isang beses kundi dalawang beses na diumano inihagis 'yung sumbrero.”
While Leviste criticized the fan's action, he also commended Eala for how she responded to the situation. He described the young athlete's attitude positively and acknowledged that the spectator eventually apologized.
“Sa palagay ko, hindi tama 'yung ginawa ng fan. Mabuti na lang maganda ang attitude ni Ms. Alex. At, in fairness, humingi naman ng paumanhin 'yung fan, like what we heard on the first viral video,” dagdag niya.
The incident has since drawn attention to how fans should approach athletes, particularly when asking for autographs or interacting with them in public areas.
Alex Eala is a trailblazing Filipina professional tennis player who made history as the first player from the Philippines to win a junior Grand Slam singles title and capture a WTA Tour singles title. Hailing from Quezon City with a rich athletic family background, she trained at the prestigious Rafa Nadal Academy in Spain and has continued to shatter records by climbing into the top 20 of the global WTA rankings.
In another report, Alex Eala found herself in an unexpected encounter with a spectator following her match at the 2026 Asian Games in Nagoya. As she was leaving the venue, a fan reportedly threw a white cap toward her instead of politely asking for an autograph. Alex confronted the spectator over the gesture, but after he apologized, she still agreed to sign the item.
Meanwhile, June Ducat responded to the criticism directed at a statue of Alex Eala that went viral online. He expressed his apology to the tennis player and explained that the artwork was intended as a tribute to Filipino athletes. Ducat also clarified that the statue had been installed at the resort before Eala gained widespread recognition.
