The actress shared the revelation during her guest appearance on the latest episode of Ang Walang Kwentang Podcast. She recalled that she was still undecided about what course to take in college when she was in high school, but journalism had already caught her attention.
“Ako gusto kong maging journalist nung high school ako kasi undecided ako kung anong kukunin ko na course sa college,” she said.
Glaiza explained that she was fascinated by the work of journalists who traveled to different places and met people with interesting stories. Among the broadcasters she grew up watching were Karen Davila, Korina Sanchez, and Jessica Soho, whose work seemingly influenced her early career aspirations.

“Parang gusto ko yung ginagawa nila na nagpupunta sila sa kung saan-saan na lugar tapos nag iinterview sila ng mga tao na sobrang interesting–– yung mga buhay, kung paano ginagawa to, kung ano processo ng ganyan,” she added.
Although journalism was once among the careers she considered, Glaiza eventually chose acting. She noted that being an actress still allowed her to remain within the media industry.
“Sabi ko, sige na nga tuloy ko na nga tong pag aartista ko na parte pa rin naman ng media. Kumbaga, masscomm pa rin yung nadali,” she said.
Her journalism-related interests also seem to resonate with some of the projects she has accepted throughout her acting career. Glaiza currently stars in 58th, an animated biographical drama directed by Carl Joseph Papa. She portrays Maria Reynafe Castillo, the daughter of missing photojournalist Reynaldo “Bebot” Momay, who is identified as the 58th victim of the Maguindanao Massacre.

Glaiza admitted that she sometimes wonders why she continues to gravitate toward projects dealing with difficult and sensitive subjects. She also acknowledged that taking on such roles can make her think about her own safety.
“Parang minsan kinukwestyon ko bakit ako napupunta sa ganito at bakit ako nahuhumaling sa ganitong klaseng proyekto? Kasi medyo natakot talaga ako–– sinabi ko to kay Direk Carl nung pinalabas yung 58th –– may imagination ako na baka mamaya may humarang sa akin sa airport,” she admitted.
Despite those concerns, Glaiza believes that her work can serve a greater purpose. She pointed to her previous role in the 2018 film Liway, which was based on a true story during the Martial Law era, as another example of a project that dealt with a significant chapter in Philippine history.
For Glaiza, her attraction to stories rooted in history and social realities may be connected to her family background and her desire to use her platform meaningfully.
Glaiza de Castro is an acclaimed Filipina actress and singer who cemented her status as a premier television star through iconic roles such as the fierce Sang'gre Pirena in the fantasy series Encantadia and the antagonist Eunice Aragon in Stairway to Heaven. Coming from a musically inclined family with parents who are musicians and an uncle in the action film industry, she balances her enduring showbiz career and music pursuits with family life alongside her Irish businessman husband, David Rainey.
In a related previous report that further highlighted Glaiza de Castro’s preparations for motherhood, the actress opened up about her pregnancy journey and introduced the celebrity friends she considers part of her “Mom Squad.” Glaiza shared how Iya Villania’s advice encouraged her to prepare her body physically for childbirth. As she looks ahead to raising her first child, the actress also said she may want to have around two children, while remaining open to whatever happens in the future.
In an earlier report that offered more details about Glaiza’s journey toward becoming a first-time mother, the Kapuso actress revealed on “Fast Talk With Boy Abunda” that she was five months pregnant with her first child. Glaiza said she was already 21 weeks into her pregnancy and explained that she reaches another week of pregnancy every Monday. She recalled that she once felt unprepared to become a mother but eventually reached a point when she personally felt ready to take on the new chapter. At 38, Glaiza acknowledged that her age was one factor she considered, particularly because she did not want to face difficulties later on, but she emphasized that she did not let outside pressure determine her decision.
