Earlier reports said five students were affected in the incident, with one of them later reported dead while the four others were brought to a hospital in neighboring Koronadal City for treatment. The identities and further details involving the victims have yet to be fully established as authorities continue their investigation.

The Banga Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office said classes at all levels in the municipality were immediately suspended following the shooting.
The Department of Education confirmed the reported shooting and said it was coordinating with the Schools Division Office, Regional Office, local authorities, and law enforcement agencies to establish what happened and provide assistance to those affected.
In its official statement, DepEd emphasized that the safety and well-being of students, teachers, and school personnel remain its immediate concern.
“Our immediate priority is the safety and well-being of our learners, teachers, and school personnel.”
The agency also said it was prepared to provide psychological first aid and mental health and psychosocial support to people affected by the incident.

DepEd urged the public to remain calm while authorities work to verify the circumstances surrounding the shooting. It also appealed to the public not to share unverified information.

The department also appealed for restraint in sharing videos of the incident, with DepEd Region XII saying that distributing such material could cause additional trauma and affect the privacy of victims and their families.

In another report, Pasig City police traced two senior high school students who were allegedly behind threats posted online against two schools. The circulating posts reportedly included images of firearms and ammunition that were supposedly intended for an attack. Police said one of the threats was fabricated, while alleged bullying was cited as a factor in the other student’s case. Authorities are now assessing the students’ possible liabilities and have increased police visibility around schools as a precaution.
Meanwhile, a 14-year-old Grade 10 student in Leyte who admitted creating threatening social media posts about a school is receiving psychological intervention and counseling. Social workers said the teenager had reportedly experienced bullying since Grade 9 and was also facing problems within her family. The student acknowledged making the posts and apologized to her parents following the incident. Police have continued to maintain a security presence at the school, which came under heightened attention after the incident occurred days after the deadly Tacloban school shooting.
